Who are we looking for?

GHD is seeking an Intermediate Bilingual Hydrotechnical Engineer to join our Canada East team. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in hydrology and hydraulics applied to hydroelectric facilities. This role can be based in one of our offices in Fredericton, NB or in our Bedford, NS. Experience with dams is a significant asset, and previous experience with the hydroelectric sector will be highly valued.

Working with a dynamic, high-performing team, you will take on a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Analysis, simulation and design: Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses to support the design of hydraulic structures and dams; contribute to dam design reviews from a hydrotechnical perspective; carry out dam break simulations and analyses, and prepare flood maps.
  • Knowledge transfer and continuous learning: Collaborate with and supervise engineers-in-training in hydrological analysis and hydraulic design; support the training and mentoring of junior team members.
  • Reporting and documentation: Conduct site visits and prepare statutory inspection reports from a hydrotechnical perspective; contribute to plans and specifications for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of hydraulic infrastructure.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrate inclusion and openness in your relationships with colleagues and business partners; work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
  • Promote the team: Help raise the profile of the hydrotechnical discipline with both our internal and external clients.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or another relevant discipline; a graduate degree in hydraulics is considered an asset.
  • Professional engineering designation either with Engineers Nova Scotia or with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB), or are eligible for registration
  • 3 to 8 years of relevant professional experience in the field.
  • Strong command of French and in English, both spoken and written, to support communications on certain national-level projects (considered an asset).
  • Good knowledge of applicable calculation methods, including hydrological and hydraulic assessments, floodplain analysis, and river flow evaluation.
  • Hands-on experience with modelling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS, and Civ3D; familiarity with CADAM 3D and MIKE 21 is an asset.
  • Project management experience appropriate for the intermediate level.
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Availability for short regional travel, including occasional inspections and site visits.

*In this role, you will regularly interact, both verbally and in writing, with key internal and external clients within the Eastern Canada team, as well as with colleagues across Canada and globally.
