About the Company
Our client is a leading manufacturer of high-quality wood products and building materials serving residential, commercial, and industrial construction markets across North America. With a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, sustainability, and continuous improvement, the organization is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead a key manufacturing facility in British Columbia.
Position Summary
The Plant Manager will have full responsibility for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the manufacturing facility. This individual will lead all aspects of production, maintenance, safety, quality, inventory, continuous improvement, and employee development while driving a culture of accountability and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be a visible leader with a strong background in wood products, lumber, engineered wood, panels, millwork, building materials, or other manufacturing environments non-related to this industry.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership
Direct all aspects of manufacturing operations, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved. Lead production, maintenance, quality, engineering, warehousing, and logistics functions. Manage daily operations to maximize productivity, asset utilization, and customer service levels. Drive operational performance through KPIs, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety & Environmental
Champion a world-class safety culture throughout the facility. Ensure compliance with all provincial, federal, and corporate safety regulations and environmental requirements. Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Financial & Strategic Management
Own plant P&L performance, budgets, forecasting, and cost controls. Identify opportunities to improve margins through productivity gains, waste reduction, and process optimization. Support capital planning and oversee execution of facility improvement projects.
Leadership & Talent Development
Develop, mentor, and lead a team of supervisors, managers, and frontline employees. Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement. Partner with HR to strengthen succession planning, recruiting, retention, and workforce development initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
Drive Lean Manufacturing, Operational Excellence, Six Sigma, or similar programs. Lead efforts to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), uptime, throughput, and yield. Establish and maintain standardized operating procedures and best practices.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Forestry, Wood Products, Business, or a related discipline. 8+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience. 5+ years of Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or General Manager experience within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience managing plant financial performance and budgets. Strong knowledge of safety, quality, maintenance, and operational excellence programs. Proven ability to lead large teams and develop future leaders.
