OEM Remanufacturing is Finning’s flagship reman facility rebuilding some of the largest Caterpillar mining equipment in the world. Our Technical Services department is looking for someone like you to join our dynamic failure analysis team. In this role you will learn the process of failure analysis on Caterpillar small components and undercarriage in order to determine the root cause of component failure. This is carried out as a team by documenting component condition on the shop floor, researching component history, analyzing individual piece parts and relating this information to the function and operation of the components. Using this information, you will prepare technical reports for the end customer and Caterpillar that can initiate product and performance improvement. Safety and the spirit of continuous improvement are integrated into everything we do. Please note this is a weekend shift position (Friday - Sunday, 6am-6:30pm) Job Description: Through the Failure Analysis process, determine root cause of component failure Prepare technical reports supporting root cause determination Identify and report part and product problems to Caterpillar, through the OEM technical report process, that then may initiate product improvement efforts. This is carried out by; observing and documenting with digital photos and written text, component condition upon disassembly, researching component history, analyzing individual piece parts and relating this information to the function and operation of the components Preserve, secure and store failure related parts to support analysis and warranty claims Preserve, secure and store “Watch Item” parts for furtherance to Caterpillar Assume responsibility for the categorization of parts to determine where financial costing will reside Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with Production, Customer Service, and Safety personnel Continually work to identify improvements for daily working issues related to the failure analysis process When required, assist in the development of technical documentation that supports the OEM remanufacturing processes Carry out the OEM portion of product tests as instructed and secure test iron for analysis from completed tests Perform all tasks in a safe manner including submitting safety observations, and other safety input Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have an Engineering degree in a related discipline (mechanical, materials, metallurgical, reliability) Registered as an EIT or P.Eng with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is an asset Mechanical Engineering Technologists (RET/CET) or Heavy Duty Mechanics will be considered on a per case basis The ability to work safely within a team environment, lead by example, and to contribute to overall company safety Mechanical aptitude Strong root cause analysis skills and extremely high level of attention to detail The ability to effectively communicate technical findings both written and verbally Above average photography skills and ability to work with DSLR cameras Ability to interact and clearly communicate with production personnel in order to document and preserve evidence of failure Fully conversant with Microsoft Office environment. (Word, Excel) Technical knowledge of Caterpillar equipment considered an asset Note: This position is targeting a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, weekend shift (6am to 6:30pm), but would flex depending on business needs Base salary ~ $75,000+ per year, based on experience, as well as bonus eligibility Competitive benefits package Defined Contribution Pension Plan and Employee Share Purchase plan (with employer matching components) At Finning, we prioritize creating a diverse and inclusive environment.
