Zero-Emission Grid Canada INC. continues to grow rapidly and is seeking a candidate to support our Power Systems Analytics business line. Responsibilities include performing detailed power system modeling; developing custom user-defined models; conducting model testing, tuning, verification, and validation; and performing large-scale EMT and transient analyses using our in-house proprietary agents and tools.

The candidate will also collaborate closely with the Design Study team to help inform project design and development decisions. As a core member of the team, the ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, personable, and professionally driven, with a strong interest in contributing to ZEG’s mission of decarbonizing the power grid.

The successful candidate is expected to bring subject-matter expertise in transmission, large loads and generation planning, along with a solid understanding of power market dynamics, interconnection processes, and North American industry stakeholder frameworks.

What You’ll Do Develop, tune, validate, and verify advanced models associated with large loads (including data centers), generation resources, IBRs (GFM/GFL), and GETs suitable for transient and sub-transient analyses. Develop custom user-defined models (UDMs) in accordance with specific OEM requirements. Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and analysis. Support the execution of grid-wide power system analyses for generation and large-load projects, including EMT studies, load flow analyses, transient stability analyses, and generation deliverability assessments. Prepare interconnection application packages for large loads, generators, and energy storage systems in compliance with applicable interconnection requirements and regional procedures. Support commissioning and compliance-related activities associated with the generation interconnection process. Collaborate closely with the Engineering Design team to ensure developed models and associated parameters are accurately reflected in project design studies. Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of North American transmission planning, generation and large-load interconnection processes, applicable NERC standards, and relevant regional business manuals, handbooks, and procedures. Communicate clearly and effectively with team members, clients, and other stakeholders, including providing project status updates, responding to technical inquiries, and representing ZEG in external stakeholder meetings. Prepare high-quality technical deliverables, including technical reports, white papers, presentations, and supporting documentation. Actively participate in industry forums and thought leadership activities to remain current with emerging trends, evolving standards, and industry best practices. Foster innovation and creative problem-solving to address industry challenges through practical, effective, and efficient technical solutions. Develop or enhance automation scripts and workflows to improve the efficiency and scalability of grid-wide simulations and analytical studies. Contribute to the team’s research and innovation initiatives, including the development of new analytical methodologies, proprietary tools, and advanced study techniques. Required Qualifications

Minimum of master's degree in electrical power systems engineering (Ph.D. preferred if there is no relevant industry experience) Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience performing power systems modeling and/or simulations using commercial software tools for North American or European power markets. (Relevant post-graduate research and coursework could be considered toward this requirement) Demonstrated hands-on experience with at least one of the following tools: PSCAD, PSS®E, PowerWorld, PowerGEM TARA, GE-PSLF Demonstrable understanding of North American transmission, generation, or large-load planning and interconnection processes and standards Demonstrable track record of using AI and automation to improve work efficiency is strongly desirable. Strong attention to detail Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment while managing multiple assignments and competing priorities.
