Overview Located in beautiful Fort St. James, BC where outdoor recreation (such as water sports, fishing, biking, hiking, hunting, skiing and more) is in abundance and where home prices are affordable, BioNorth Energy is looking for a 3rd Class Power Engineer to join the team! Reporting to the Operations Manager and working as part of our Operations Team, the Power Engineer will be responsible for the safe operation of the power plant and related auxiliary equipment. Our entire team focuses on creating a work environment where all employees work together to complete all tasks and meet challenges using a team-based approach. BioNorth Energy is a joint-venture partnership between the Arrow Group of Companies (Arrow), the Nak’azdli Development Corporation (NDC), the economic development arm of the Nak’azdli First Nation (Nak’azdli), and low-carbon infrastructure developer, Nexus PMG (Nexus). The BioNorth Energy Plant is a 40-megawatt biomass power generation facility which began commercial operation in late 2017, under a 30-year electricity purchase agreement (EPA) with BC Hydro. Making use of forest biomass, such as biologs, wood waste and hog fuel to make electricity is a way for British Columbia to meet the energy objectives of its CleanBC plan and shift BC to a lower carbon economy. By combining the knowledge and complimentary skillsets of Arrow, the NDC and Nak’azdli, and Nexus PMG, we are ideally positioned to turn the plant into a successful energy producing facility. Learn more about our BioNorth facility here: https://bionorth.ca/ Responsibilities Maintain a safe work environment and ensure all safety requirements are met or exceeded Perform related duties to ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of the plant and outside operations Closely liaise and communicate with staff and other departments to ensure consistent operations of the power plant and auxiliary equipment Facilitate the reliable supply of services to the plant Operate a wide variety of equipment Provide operational expertise to resolve frequently changing process conditions Identify plant improvements Ensure good communication and cooperation with other teams Ensure good communication with stakeholder representatives Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations Provide internal and external customer service excellence Other duties as assigned by manager You Possess BC or Interprovincial 3rd Class Power Engineering certificate Experience as a power engineer in a biomass plant Experience with power plant operations and working with boilers, turbines and biomass fuel handling systems An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Familiarity with PLC and DCS systems The ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures Confined space experience Hazardous energy isolation experience The ability to demonstrate strong communication skills both verbally and written Strong computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office programs Strong leadership and training abilities The ability to troubleshoot and solve problems The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously Demonstrated ability to acquire new skills and utilize technology to streamline processes The ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts (day and night shifts) The ability to pass drug and alcohol screening The ability to perform all tasks associated with the Power Engineer position A strong safety mindset Excellent work ethic and positive team attitude Internal and external customer service skills Proven Initiative and quality oriented The ability to be responsible, accountable and dependable Highly flexible, solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment Proven Initiative and quality oriented Organizational skills and keen attention to detail Ethics and integrity with a high degree of professionalism Arrow has been recognized as a Top Fleet Employer of Distinction, a SmartWay Transport Partner, a BCTA Clean Carrier, a BC Hydro Clean Energy Champion and as a Carrier of Excellence in Women's Leadership.
