About the position Valero aims to achieve the highest safety and quality standards, exceeding government regulations in all jurisdictions where it operates. The person in this position will play a key role in ensuring compliance and the continuous improvement of environmental performance at the Canadian terminals and the St. Laurent Pipeline. Main Responsibilities · Manage environmental projects and guide operations and maintenance teams within various equipment monitoring programs. · Ensure management of residual materials through reduction, recovery, recycling and disposal. Maintain records and produce government reports. · Ensure environmental monitoring of critical equipment and issue recommendations. · Plan and oversee testing of air treatment equipment (URV and UCV) conducted by external firms. · Guide operations and maintenance teams in monitoring programs for water management equipment (separators, basins, sewers). · Develop and implement environmental procedures, and ensure follow-up and proper documentation. · Design environmental inspection and audit protocols for the various sites. · Conduct verifications, inspections, and audits to ensure environmental compliance of sites, complete required documentation, and implement or coordinate corrective actions. · Audit, develop, and update sound environmental management procedures and ensure their dissemination through various communication channels. · Contribute to the development and implementation of programs such as Green Alliance and ICI On Recycle. · Act as a resource person during internal and external audits and take charge of corrective actions. · Maintain a strong field presence to support operations in applying standards and identifying opportunities for improvement. · Ensure environmental management of soil, water, and air. · Monitor regulatory requirements and communicate changes to applicable standards or obligations. · Support the environmental supervisor with field activities related to air, water, and soil quality at the sites. · Develop environmental solutions based on best practices and participate in assessing the impact of new regulations. · Participate in the development of projects across various sites to ensure compliance with environmental requirements and the integration of best practices. · Contribute to the training program as a content expert and trainer. · Participate in emergency response efforts in the event of environmental incidents. · Contribute to incident investigations and coordinate required on-site actions, including spill response situations. · Perform certain administrative tasks related to the position, such as requisitions, purchase orders, etc.
Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or another relevant field. · 3 to 5 years’ relevant industrial experience. · Good knowledge of the environmental regulatory framework. · Verbal and written bilingualism. · Strong communication skills. · Ability to influence. · Proven skills and discipline in labour organization. · Ability to adapt to change and to multitask. · Strong interest in outside “fieldwork”. This position requires availability for occasional travel to the Toronto, Maitland, Miramichi, and Gaspé sites (approximately 6 times per year, for durations ranging from 1 to 5 days). Valero Energy Inc. is governed by the Charter of the French Language. However, knowledge of English is considered necessary for performing the tasks of this position. The individual in this position will be required to review documents and interact both verbally and in writing with colleagues at the head office in Texas or in other Canadian provinces, or with various stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, unilingual anglophone business partners.
