Senior Estimator Toronto, Ontario SUMMARY GIP is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead and oversee the preparation of cost estimates for large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, tunnels, rail, and other public works. The Senior Estimator will work collaboratively with our pursuit team, operations, engineering, and procurement teams to deliver accurate, competitive, and timely estimates that support strategic business goals. PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE Lead the estimating process from bid review to final submission for complex heavy civil projects ranging from $30M to $1B+. Develop and maintain unit cost databases, historical pricing, and production rates. Coordinate with engineering, operations, and procurement to identify project risks, construction methods, and value engineering opportunities. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis for earthworks, concrete, utilities, structures, and other civil scopes. Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, ensuring scope coverage and cost competitiveness. Participate in bid reviews and presentations to senior leadership and clients. Support business development by providing preliminary budgets, concept-level estimates, and cost models during proposal and planning phases. Ensure estimates comply with contract documents, company policies, and industry standards. Stay current with market trends, pricing fluctuations, and labor and equipment productivity. Interpret and apply OPSS and OPSD standards for MTO civil works, with an understanding of related quality control and assurance requirements. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Degree in civil engineering or related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience. Minimum 7-10 years of civil infrastructure experience, including at least 3 years in a dedicated civil estimating role. Demonstrated experience working on and/or estimating MTO projects, with strong working knowledge of OPSS and OPSD standards. Demonstrated expertise in first principles estimating and preparing detailed Class 1 estimates. Experience estimating within design-build delivery models is an asset. Proven ability to estimate from incomplete design packages and develop corresponding risk and contingency strategies. Familiarity with AACE Recommended Practices and industry cost estimating standards. Proficiency in industry estimating software such as InEight, HeavyBid, or similar tools. Sound understanding of structural procurement processes, including RFQ issuance, bid evaluation, and subcontractor/supplier engagement. Experience identifying and evaluating construction risks associated with large-span bridges and calculating contingency values. In-depth knowledge of Ontario’s infrastructure market conditions and their influence on project costing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical abilities, with a collaborative mindset. Able to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines. WHAT WE OFFER Expected Base Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations. Annual performance-based bonus.
