About the role

About Us Haply is building the human interface for Physical AI. As robots and autonomous systems become more capable, humans still need intuitive ways to teach, guide, and supervise physical tasks. Haply builds the platform that allows people to program and train machines through touch and motion. Our technology is used by leading robotics, AI, industrial, aerospace, and defense organizations around the world to accelerate teleoperation, robot learning, and Physical AI. Backed by world-renowned investors, we're growing quickly and building products that are already deployed by customers worldwide.

The Role We're hiring a Firmware Engineer to build the embedded systems that power every Haply device. From haptic rendering and force feedback to motor control, sensors, and device communication, our firmware sits at the heart of the user experience. You'll develop reliable, production-ready embedded software that bridges hardware and software while working closely with our electrical, mechanical, robotics, and platform teams.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working close to the hardware, solving complex embedded problems, and shipping products that operate reliably in the real world. You'll help shape both current and future generations of Haply devices—from early prototypes to products used by customers around the globe.

What You'll Do Develop and maintain embedded firmware for Haply's family of haptic devices. Design and implement new firmware features for sensors, actuators, communication protocols, calibration, and safety systems. Support hardware bring-up, board validation, and prototype debugging. Develop and maintain low-level drivers for motors, encoders, sensors, and embedded peripherals. Optimize firmware performance, timing, memory usage, and real-time behavior. Debug complex issues involving hardware, firmware, communication protocols, and system integration. Collaborate closely with hardware engineers throughout schematic review, board bring-up, and product development. Support manufacturing by improving flashing, diagnostics, calibration, and production workflows. Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, release validation, and continuous improvement of our embedded platform.

Who You Are 5+ years of experience developing embedded firmware for commercial products. Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++. Experience with STM32, ARM Cortex-M, or similar microcontroller platforms. Solid understanding of bare-metal and/or RTOS-based development. Strong knowledge of interrupts, timers, DMA, memory management, and real-time embedded systems. Experience developing low-level drivers and working directly with hardware. Comfortable using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and other embedded debugging tools. Strong troubleshooting skills across firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and system integration. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Bonus Points Experience with robotics, haptics, motion control, or mechatronic systems. Experience with USB, HID, UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, or similar communication protocols. Familiarity with bootloaders, OTA updates, and firmware release processes. Experience supporting manufacturing, production testing, and device calibration. Experience with CMake, Git, CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing. Knowledge of Rust or Python. Interest in Physical AI, teleoperation, robotics, or human-machine interfaces.

Why You'll Love Working Here Build technology that's defining the future of Physical AI. Develop firmware that directly controls cutting-edge robotic and haptic devices. Collaborate with experts across firmware, electronics, robotics, AI, and mechanical engineering. Own critical embedded systems that power every Haply product. See your work move quickly from prototype to production and into customers' hands. Join a fast-growing, venture-backed company where your work has immediate impact.

Compensation: $95,000–$140,000 CAD + benefits
