About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer specializing in Mobile Android development to join our dynamic team at Capital One Canada. In this role, you will not have direct reports but will be responsible for providing advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architectural guidance. Your primary focus will be on creating scalable, secure, and innovative mobile solutions that align with our strategic business objectives. You will review ongoing solution designs, evaluate emerging technologies, and oversee high-level architecture development. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams, business partners, and stakeholders to ensure that all solutions adhere to architectural standards and security protocols. Your contributions will directly influence the future of our mobile platforms, ensuring they are robust, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in native Android application development using Java and Kotlin. Extensive experience in application design, technical architecture, and development is essential. Proficiency with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, Jetpack Compose, and Jenkins is required. Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior and senior engineers, coupled with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, is highly valued. A bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields is preferred. Candidates with over 10 years of full software development lifecycle experience, cloud exposure, and familiarity with agile methodologies will have a distinct advantage.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the technical strategy and vision for complex, multi-domain Android platform needs, providing hands-on engineering guidance to ensure successful execution. Act as a recognized thought leader, influencing architectural roadmaps and major technical investments across the organization, and advising on how emerging technologies impact the domain. Participate actively throughout the Software Development Life Cycle within a dynamic mobile team environment. Mentor and coach engineers and senior technical leaders, elevating the technical capabilities of the team and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Evaluate and recommend new tools, frameworks, and technologies to enhance product quality and development efficiency. Collaborate with business partners to develop sound business architectures and ensure technical solutions align with organizational goals. Ensure all solutions follow architectural standards, security protocols, and best practices for mobile development.
