Position Overview: We are seeking a Senior HVDC Switchyard Design Engineer to join the Station Design Department. Under the general direction of the Switchyard Electrical & Grounding Design Section Head or delegate, act as a senior HVDC switchyard design specialist in the high voltage electrical design of HVDC converter stations and high voltage AC transmission and distribution stations

Responsibilities: Direct the design of high voltage AC and DC transmission, distribution, and converter stations ranging in voltages up to 500 kV from the concept stage to final design, ensuring design deliverables meet all the requirements of project stakeholders and owners. This position will be primarily focused on HVDC converter station switchyard design. Lead and mentor the development of staff, including engineers, technical officers and technical assistants related to HVDC switchyard design. Perform administrative duties including interviews, performance appraisals, personal development plans and discipline. Supervise design deliverables and maintain accountability in terms of meeting committed scope, schedules and estimates. Coordinate work team efforts to ensure consistency, efficiency, and achievement of committed priorities. Direct the activities of consultants and/or contractors providing HVDC converter station designs. Consult and coordinate with internal project managers, contract management specialists and stakeholders throughout the corporation to ensure that all share a common understanding of project requirements and deliverables. Direct the design of all electrical aspects of HVDC converter stations including the overall layout, selection of equipment & placement of apparatus, structure & bus configuration, clearances, insulation levels, and specification of materials. Direct development of new HVDC design standards, innovative methods and design specifications for new or modified converter station facilities, plus the adherence to existing standards, practices and procedures, to ensure they are feasible, and can be constructed and maintained in a safe and efficient manner. Lead the planning and execution of key deliverables for the HVDC Sustainment Program for the SEG section and provide support to the HVDC program for all aspects of the electrical switchyard design. Represent the Station Design Department and provide corporate level consulting services in the field of HVDC switchyard designs. Assist the Switchyard Electrical & Grounding Design Section Head to oversee the coordination of all HVDC Converter Station Scoping, Estimating and Project Schedule Management. Liaise with Station Design Section Heads and Project Managers/Coordinators. Direct and oversee updates to processes and resolve challenges at the departmental level as required.

Qualifications: Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing with a minimum of seven years related experience of which a minimum of three years is covering HVDC converter station design, construction and/or commissioning. Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time). Thorough knowledge of all types of HVDC electrical apparatus (high speed switches, valve based electronics, filter banks, etc.) and HVDC switchyard design. Familiar with Electrical Code, applicable industry standards, and construction practices. Knowledge of high voltage AC stations, voltage classes and their design is an asset. Demonstrated clear understanding of working relationships between interdisciplinary project participants, project stakeholders and owners including project management and project reporting activities, methods and procedures. Demonstrated ability to provide mature leadership in planning, organizing and directing the activities of a group of highly skilled engineers, technical officers and technicians. Demonstrated ability to motivate others and a high degree of initiative. Demonstrated ability to communicate tactfully in all circumstances with internal stakeholders & external consultants, and maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with others at all levels of both internal and external organizations. Thorough knowledge of corporate procedures, policies and regulations. Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e. air, land, and water. Possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence, with appropriate class.

Note May be required to work at other locations within the province, and where transportation between these sites may be by small aircraft.

Salary Range Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $52.88-$72.45 Hourly, $101,332.40-$138,828.30 Annually.
