About the Position: The Analyst is responsible for performing analysis in various matrices in the Inorganics section which includes analyzing samples using a variety of instrumentation, generating data and maintaining the laboratory and instrumentation. This position will also perform routine functions such as sample preparation and lab maintenance. Specific Responsibilities Prepare and standardize reagents and solutions as required; Adhere to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behaviour in completing job duties and assignments; Follow safety requirements as described in the company Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns and incidents to the Safety Representative; Prepare calibration and quality control standards, duplicate and spike samples; Clean all glassware and other containers required for sample preparation and analysis; Analyse samples on a variety of instrumentation and ensure calibration and other QA guidelines are met; Evaluate data and troubleshoot problems with instruments, support equipment, and sample preparation processes; Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair as required; Organize workload to meet Turn Around Times (TATs) and hold times; Create work lists, workgroups, sample tables and other computer tasks as assigned. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Order relevant chemicals and supplies in a timely manner for your work area. Follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements without deviation, except where approved by Supervisor or Manager; Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Train and supervise junior staff in accordance with laboratory protocols; Ensure all training records are current and applicable; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Intermediate English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) as required; Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) at an intermediate level; Intermediate computer skills; Accurate and efficient data entry skills; Capability to perform repetitive tasks correctly in a fast-paced environment; Good organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines such as Turnaround Times (TAT) and holding requirements; Analytical and process oriented skills with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; A strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required; A commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude. Required Qualifications: Completion of B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or a related discipline (required); 1-3 years’ experience in an analytical laboratory or related field experience (asset); Previous experience with Automated Spectrophotometer, IC instrumentation, ICP and/or other laboratory instrumentation would be considered an asset. Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances; Ability to climb stairs; Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Ability to stand for a full shift; Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends. Our benefits include: An estimated hourly pay of $23.62 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
