About the role

Biogas Plant Operating Engineer EnerFORGE, a subsidiary of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation, operates and maintains thermal and power generation assets at several sites across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including the ZooShare Biogas Plant. The ZooShare Biogas Plant is an anaerobic digestion facility that processes up to 15,000 tonnes of inedible food waste annually from local municipalities, restaurants, and grocery stores. Through the anaerobic digestion process, the facility converts organic waste into biogas, which is used to generate electricity for export to the grid through a combined heat and power (CHP) system.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY We are seeking a Biogas Plant Operating Engineer to join the EnerFORGE team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Manager, Business Operations, while receiving day-to-day operational direction from the Chief Operating Engineer, Power Plant. The Biogas Plant Operating Engineer will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the ZooShare Biogas Plant. This existing position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $31.00 per hour to $38.50 per hour. Final compensation will be based on experience, skills, and overall fit for the role. In addition to the base salary EnerFORGE offers highly competitive benefits, employee reimbursement programs, and bonus structure.

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to be involved with: Control and operate automatic and semi-automatic equipment and related systems, including pumps, boilers, generators, valves, gates, mixers, heat exchangers, and chemical feed systems; Monitor temperatures, volumes, gauges, pressures, and other operating parameters through instrument panels, SCADA systems, computer terminals, and field inspections; Monitor and record operating conditions, observations, and data in shift logs; Utilize SCADA systems for process monitoring, system control, and equipment operation; Perform chemical, physical, and biological testing to optimize process performance and feeding rates, including analyses such as Total Solids (TS), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), pH, and other laboratory tests common to wastewater and anaerobic digestion facilities; Sample incoming feedstock and digestate materials in accordance with established schedules and procedures; Make independent decisions regarding process control adjustments to maintain optimal plant performance; Ensure conformance with process specifications and operating procedures; Diagnose operational issues and implement corrective actions in accordance with established procedures; Verify and report equipment malfunctions, process variances, and abnormal operating conditions to supervisory staff and take corrective action as required; Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities and assist with the cleaning and upkeep of plant equipment, facilities, and grounds; Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organization; Liaise with feedstock suppliers to coordinate deliveries while ensuring customer requirements and optimal plant feeding conditions are maintained.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER Minimum Fourth Class Operating Engineer certification in the Province of Ontario. Additional certifications and licences are considered an asset; Demonstrated industry experience in thermal energy systems, cogeneration power plants, anaerobic digestion or wastewater treatment plants; Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, and compressors; Thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic components and equipment; Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs); Strong ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure; Ability to work independently and perform effectively with minimal supervision; Comprehensive technical knowledge in SCADA and Building Automation Systems (BAS) associated with plant operations; Strong mechanical and/or automation aptitude, including equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis; considered a significant asset; Valid Class G driver's licence in the Province of Ontario with the ability to travel to various sites across the GTA as required.
