The Vehicle Systems Integration Lab (VSIL) Lab Operations Specialist/Engineer is a member of the Software and Cybersecurity team who maintains overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the VSIL. We are looking for someone who is highly organized and has experience working with cross-functional organizations such as Production, Supply Chain and IPS (e.g. CSTC, ATMP, LEADS). A successful Lab Operations Specialist/Engineer will thrive in a diverse and changing environment. They will maintain positive and professional "front-end" presence in the VSIL and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new skills as needed.
Key Job Elements:
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation and coordination of activities in the VSIL for Software, Cybersecurity and Software Test teams and to anticipate, plan for and act on future needs within the Lab.
- Collaborate with and provide hands-on support to software lab stakeholders such as developers, testers, supply chain, manufacturing and leadership.
- Establish and maintain a system of organization that manages inventory, sign-out procedures, work flow within the lab, efficient use of space and compliance with safe work and health and safety requirements.
- Supporting ad hoc or urgent requests such as preparing for VIP events
- Lead collaboration with Supply Chain Management on material procurement requirements and maintain compliant use of a Purchasing Card to ensure material availability and stock levels of consumables for VSIL users.
- Support ITAR, CUI and Government Property requirements, including expense tracking, reporting and payment
- Establish and maintain a tracking system for high value assets and their calibration status.
- Responsible for the overall cleanliness and housekeeping of shared spaces in the VSIL.
- Lead collaboration with Facilities Engineering and other areas of the business to ensure there is adequate storage, electrical infrastructure, equipment and furniture within the VSIL to support ongoing and anticipated projects.
- Support IT and Security to maintain security updates and status of VSIL computer and digital assets.
- Coordinate with Production Material Control team on shipping and receiving to the VSIL.
- Support funding planning for capital project, consumables and other budget items to ensure access to appropriate tools and test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multi meters, etc.) for the VSIL.
- Manage annual VSIL operating budget.
Required Qualifications:
- Certificate, Diploma or Degree in a related field
- Familiarity with Lab instrumentation (eg. Multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.)
- Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience with MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & International) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport.
Preferred Experience / Qualifications:
- 3 years relevant experience.
- Experience with industry and military standards relevant to military vehicle design
- Experience building assemblies with automotive and military connectors
- Familiarity with CAN and serial bus (RS232/422/485) connections
- Experience building test harnesses and/or test fixtures for electronic components
- Familiar with 3D models and / or printing
- Ability to use common hand tools for crimping contacts and construction of assemblies.
