You As a Field Engineer
Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Provide technical support to site superintendents and subcontractors. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design requirements, building codes, and safety regulations. Conduct field inspections to ensure quality work, safety standards, and compliance with specifications. Assist with surveying, layout, and site measurements. Prepare and maintain daily reports, progress updates, and project documentation. Coordinate requests for information (RFI’s), submittals, and change orders. Identify and resolve onsite construction issues related to technical specifications. Assist in planning construction activities and coordinate with subtrades. Support quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes. Participate in project and site meetings with clients, contractors, and design teams. Ensure proper documentation of as-built drawings and project records. Assist in cost control and materials tracking and ensure all materials and equipment meet project requirements. Mark up drawings in project management software to reflect RFIs, contemplated changes, site instructions, reviewed shop drawings, and other field-related changes, and assist with maintaining accurate current and as-built drawing records. Review shop drawings and submittals for general conformance with contract documents, coordination with other trades, and constructability before and after consultant review. Coordinate technical interfaces between trades, including sequencing, access, layout conflicts, rough-in requirements, installation priorities, and resolution of field coordination issues. Assist with constructability reviews by identifying conflicts, missing information, sequencing concerns, and practical installation issues before they affect field progress. Assist with tracking deficiencies, inspection items, testing requirements, and QA/QC documentation through to completion.

Knowledge of various trade disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control and engineered shop drawings. An understanding of construction principles, best practices, and technologies. Sound judgment and decision-making skills to evaluate options and make timely decisions that support project objectives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships. Effective problem solving and negotiation skills. Adaptable and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, within tight deadlines while maintaining safety and high-quality standards. Comfortable working in an active construction site environment and communicating clearly with superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, and project management staff. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, organized, and timely project documentation. Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and landscape drawings and specifications.
Requirements
Diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural technology, building technology, or a related field is preferred. 2-5 years of construction management or engineering experience or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience. Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Office, and PDF/drawing markup tools such as Bluebeam is considered an asset. Experience working on Healthcare, Higher Education, and Government/Institutional projects is considered an asset.
