About the role
As a Building Operator, you will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Irving Oil’s corporate buildings systems and facilities. Your goal will be to maintain mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and timely response to issues. Your success will be demonstrated by consistent system performance, effective resolution of alarms and service requests, and a well-maintained, compliant facility. What We Offer: Work Environment – Work onsite in our beautiful home office building with access to a fitness facility, onsite nurse, and a café Competitive Compensation – Including an annual bonus plan, pension plan, and parking allowance Flexible Benefits Plan – In effect from day one and offers three levels of coverage to select from to meet your unique, personal needs Paid Vacation – Plus an annual option to purchase additional vacation, too Wellness Support – With an annual wellness allowance, paid personal care days and a 24/7 Employee & Family Assistance Program Opportunity to give back to some amazing causes in our community – Choose when and where to make an impact with a paid volunteer day, company volunteer opportunities and a donation matching program Your Responsibilities: Perform daily walkthroughs and inspections of mechanical and electrical rooms Monitor BAS systems and respond to alarms or operational irregularities Maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and lighting systems Complete water treatment testing and adjust chemical systems as required Conduct preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and systems Respond to occupant requests including temperature, lighting, and comfort concerns Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical and electrical spaces Coordinate vendors, contractors, and support regulatory inspections Participate in emergency responses, fire drills, and after-hours calls Execute monthly generator testing and maintain emergency readiness Your Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems Familiarity with BAS (Building Automation System) and lighting control systems Ability to read blueprints and understand system flows Effective time management and prioritization skills Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities Sound judgement and decision-making under pressure Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools Your Experience: Fourth Class Power Engineering certification or higher Experience in building operations, maintenance, or facilities management Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance and minor repairs Experience supporting inspections and working with external vendors Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements Irving Oil is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
