Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the Company's maintenance function by planning, coordinating, and overseeing all maintenance activities across the Company's fleet, equipment, machinery, workshop facilities, and supporting infrastructure. The role ensures maximum fleet availability, equipment reliability, cost-effective maintenance practices, and compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The Maintenance Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership to the workshop team, oversees preventive and corrective maintenance programs, manages workshop resources, and supports operational divisions including Waste Collection, Portable Toilets, Skip Services, the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), Wastewater Operations, Hazardous Waste Management, and Transportation.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Leadership Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all Company vehicles, equipment, and machinery. Coordinate daily and weekly maintenance activities to support operational requirements. Minimize equipment downtime through proactive maintenance planning. Ensure timely response to vehicle breakdowns and emergency repairs. Recommend improvements to increase fleet reliability and equipment performance. Fleet & Equipment Management Supervise the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty vehicles, light vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, MRF machinery, generators, pumps, and workshop equipment. Monitor fleet availability, equipment condition, and maintenance history. Coordinate major repairs and external service providers when required. Recommend replacement or refurbishment of aging equipment. Workshop Operations & Team Management Supervise mechanics, welders, bodywork technicians, tyre technicians, and workshop support staff. Assign work, monitor productivity, and ensure repairs meet Company quality standards. Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Ensure workshop tools and equipment are properly maintained and utilized. Inventory & Cost Control Monitor maintenance costs and assist in controlling departmental expenditure. Ensure adequate inventory of spare parts, tyres, lubricants, and workshop consumables. Coordinate the procurement of maintenance parts and supplies. Assist in preparing maintenance budgets and cost reports. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Company policies and applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations. Promote safe work practices and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment. Ensure the proper handling and disposal of maintenance-related waste materials. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders. Monitor maintenance performance and prepare routine reports. Track key maintenance performance indicators, including fleet uptime, preventive maintenance compliance, equipment availability, and maintenance costs. Coordinate with Operations and other departments to support efficient fleet utilization. Requirements Diploma, Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related field. Minimum of five (5) years' experience in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, or workshop operations. Previous supervisory experience leading maintenance teams. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, welding, and heavy equipment maintenance. Good planning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with maintenance management systems is an asset. Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards. Valid driver's licence is considered an asset.

Working Conditions Primarily based within the Company's workshop and operational facilities. Regular exposure to heavy equipment, machinery, noise, dust, oils, lubricants, and varying weather conditions. Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operation of workshop equipment. May be required to respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and must be worn at all times.
