About The Role

We are seeking a senior cloud developer with extensive experience in AWS to join our dynamic IT team at BMO Financial Group. This role is integral to our cloud-first strategy, focusing on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based applications. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of cloud architecture, DevOps practices, and software engineering principles. You will collaborate closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to shape standards, influence architecture decisions, and contribute to the community of practice within the organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical systems, employing cutting-edge AWS services to solve complex operational challenges and deliver innovative solutions that impact thousands of users and business processes.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 7-10 years of professional experience as a Cloud Developer, with a strong focus on AWS platforms. Proficiency in AWS serverless architecture, including services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and S3. Hands-on experience in backend development using Java, Node.js, or Python. Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Site Reliability Engineering principles. Knowledge of cloud security, storage solutions, and best practices for cloud computing. Experience with cloud-native architecture, microservices, and event-driven systems. Familiarity with AWS services like Step Functions, SQS, SNS, EMR, Glue, RDS, and OpenSearch. Proficiency with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, and TypeScript. Experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance server-side components utilizing Node.js or Python. Design, implement, and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices to support business needs. Create clean, maintainable, and efficient code following industry best practices for testing and documentation. Ensure application performance, scalability, and security through troubleshooting and debugging. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate user requirements into technical specifications. Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and promote best coding practices within the team. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, applying relevant innovations to projects. Support migration of existing applications to the cloud and develop new cloud-native solutions. Maintain and enhance cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability and resilience. Establish and improve continuous integration and deployment pipelines to streamline development workflows.
