Senior Azure Cloud Platform Engineer Location: Toronto, ON, Canada (Remote) Employment Type: Permanent About the Role We are seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Platform Engineer to play a hands-on engineering role within a large-scale Azure cloud ecosystem. You will be responsible for designing, building, and operating secure, scalable Azure infrastructure and platform services, including DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) capabilities that support enterprise workloads at scale. This role combines deep technical expertise with cross-functional collaboration. You will work closely with cloud engineering, data engineering, security, and risk teams to develop, implement, and operationalize Azure platform capabilities, reusable deployment patterns, and foundational services that enable cloud adoption and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Cloud Engineering & Platform Delivery Design, build, and operate Azure cloud infrastructure and shared platform services. Implement and maintain Azure landing zones, subscriptions, networking, identity, and governance frameworks. Build Azure PaaS, containerized, and managed services as reusable platform capabilities. Ensure cloud platforms meet requirements for scalability, reliability, performance, security, and cost optimization. Apply DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and operational readiness. Develop and operationalize foundational platform services and tooling for engineering teams. Partner with development teams to provide standardized Azure platform capabilities, deployment patterns, and cloud adoption frameworks. Infrastructure as Code & Automation Design and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform, CDKTF, GitHub Actions, or similar technologies. Create reusable and modular deployment frameworks that balance self-service capabilities with governance controls. Automate environment provisioning, configuration management, and policy enforcement. Develop automation and tooling that enable consistent and secure Azure deployments across teams. Build DevOps and IaC platform capabilities that support the growth and scalability of the Azure environment. Security, Governance & Risk Implement security-by-design principles across identity, networking, encryption, secrets management, and auditing. Ensure Azure solutions comply with security, privacy, governance, and regulatory requirements. Support architecture reviews, risk assessments, and audit activities in partnership with security teams. Design platforms with built-in observability, traceability, and operational controls through standardized guardrails and engineering tooling. Required Technical Skills Azure Cloud Engineering Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating solutions on Microsoft Azure in large-scale enterprise environments. Strong understanding of Azure networking, identity and access management, governance, and shared platform services. Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions. Proven ability to troubleshoot and support production Azure environments. Infrastructure as Code & DevOps Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ARM templates, GitHub Actions, or similar tools. Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application delivery. Experience developing reusable deployment frameworks, automation tooling, and platform engineering solutions. Solid understanding of IAM models, role-based access control (RBAC), and least-privilege access principles. Cloud-Native Integration & APIs Experience with Azure API Management or comparable API gateway technologies. Understanding of API lifecycle management, secure service exposure, and traffic management practices. Reliability & Observability (Preferred) Experience implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards. Familiarity with SRE concepts, including SLIs, SLOs, incident management, and resilience engineering. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering roles. Proven experience designing, implementing, and operating enterprise-scale Azure environments. Experience building foundational cloud platform services, shared infrastructure, and engineering enablement tooling. Demonstrated success leading large-scale cloud initiatives and collaborating across technology teams. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to drive enterprise-wide platform adoption. Preferred Experience Enterprise Azure platform architecture and governance. Platform engineering and developer enablement. Cloud automation and self-service platform development. Regulated or highly secure cloud environments. Large-scale DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code transformations.
