About Clean Works Clean Works Inc. (CWI) designs and manufactures patented gas-phase food sanitation systems — the Clean Flow family, which combines UV-C light, hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and hydroxyl radicals to deliver chemical-free pathogen reduction across post-harvest and pre-harvest applications. CWI is part of the Court Holdings Ltd. group of companies, based in St. Catharines, Ontario, and serves food and agriculture customers across North America and internationally. Role Overview The Intermediate Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing custom machinery, tooling, and automated equipment from concept to final product across a range of industries. Working alongside the engineering team, the successful candidate translates customer requirements and engineering specifications into manufacturable designs, produces complete drawing packages and bills of material, and supports the build and commissioning of equipment. The role is hands-on and cross-functional, and the incumbent is expected to conduct all activities in a manner that supports positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering · Follow engineering specifications and customer requirements. · Under the guidance of the Senior Mechanical Designer, perform engineering calculations: strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, as related to machine and tool designs. · Design mechanisms, subsystems, and complete machines involving mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic components using SolidWorks and DraftSight. · Design pneumatic and hydraulic schematics. · Select appropriate purchased components. · Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.

Drawings & Documentation · Produce drawings and bills of materials using CAD, spreadsheets, and ERP tools. · Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, machining techniques, finishes, etc. · Analyze designs and systems for compliance with applicable standards. · Prepare documentation including operator manuals, set-up manuals, and service manuals. · Ensure design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with \ departmental procedures.

Testing & Manufacturing Support · Provide design support for manufacturing. · Develop test plans to verify that equipment meets all relevant specifications, including safety standards. · Assist the builders of the equipment in resolving problems to complete the project. · Assist field service technicians in troubleshooting problems as required.

Communication & Coordination · Communicate with customers for technical information and specifications. · Communicate with vendors for technical information and specifications. · Communicate with technical managers, project managers, and project team members regarding all aspects of the project.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education · Post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering. · Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar mechanical design position. · Effective use of SolidWorks (mechanical CAD) and DraftSight in design work.

Skills & Competencies · Strong mechanical aptitude and good analytical skills. · Resourceful in resolving problems; able to multi-task and prioritize issues. · Good verbal and written communication skills, with good customer service · Familiar with applicable safety and ergonomics standards and with product design. · Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies in machine design. · Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. · Proficient in Microsoft Office — Word, Outlook, and Excel.
