Instrument Technician/Mechanic / Electrician Business Unit: EPCOR Water Services, Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant Location: Edmonton, AB Term: Full-Time Permanent Positions Available: Up to two (2) About the Role Join the Edmonton Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Maintenance team and play a key role in supporting the reliability and performance of critical wastewater infrastructure. In this role, you will perform Journeyman-level work across electrical and instrumentation (E&I) systems, including preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment and machinery within EPCOR’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. You will also support maintenance activities across instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical systems, contributing to safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. This position supports both day-to-day maintenance execution and longer-term improvement initiatives that enhance operational reliability and performance. Work may include exposure across multiple disciplines depending on certification and operational requirements. This opportunity is open to both current EPCOR employees and external candidates. Key Responsibilities General Responsibilities Plan and coordinate maintenance work with Operations and stakeholders Support safe and reliable plant operations during normal and upset conditions Execute work aligned with safety, quality, and schedule expectations Participate in standby rotation and respond to emergency callouts Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities Electrical Maintenance & Systems Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment Install, modify, and commission electrical systems and components Interpret drawings, schematics, and manufacturer specifications Support testing, startup, and commissioning of electrical equipment Instrumentation, Controls & Automation Maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair instrumentation systems Install, modify, and commission control systems and field devices Program and support PLC, DCS, and HMI system functionality Utilize systems such as DeltaV, Rockwell, and related platforms Asset Management & Documentation Maintain accurate equipment history and CMMS records Complete detailed work orders and Problem–Cause–Remedy (PCR) documentation Review and update drawings, procedures, and technical documentation Safety & Compliance Develop and follow safe work plans and hazard assessments Identify hazards including stored energy and electrical backfeeds Validate isolations and maintain control of work during execution What Is Required Education & Certification Grade 12 diploma – GED or equivalent completion of secondary education Valid Alberta Journeyman Instrumentation Technician or Journeyman Electrician certification Dual trade certification in Electrical and Instrumentation is considered an asset Candidates actively pursuing a second trade may be considered Single-trade candidates who are currently in their 4th year of apprenticeship in a second trade (i.e., have successfully completed 3rd year training) (Electrical/Instrumentation) Experience Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Journeyman in an industrial environment Experience troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation systems Experience in water or wastewater treatment facilities is considered an asset Technical Knowledge Strong knowledge of methods, principles, practices, tools, and equipment used in E&I maintenance Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance practices Strong understanding of industrial safety practices and hazards related to E&I work Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical specifications Working knowledge of CMMS or work management systems (e.g., Ivara) Demonstrated computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications Assets Experience with 15 kV medium voltage switchgear, including operation, troubleshooting, and switching Electrical construction and field installation experience Experience with Emerson AMS, Fisher ValveLink, Rockwell Automation, RSLinx, and DeltaV Experience using Beamex calibration equipment Experience with ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems Other Requirements Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license Ability to obtain and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit Acceptable 5 year commercial driver abstract (≤6 demerits) Ability to provide a personal vehicle if required (mileage reimbursed per policy) Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file. Other Important Information About This Job Jurisdiction: IBEW 1007 Dual trade: Class: DT1 (8520) Wage: $65.81 per hour Please note: For candidates hired with a single trade certification, the applicable classification and wage will be determined at the time of selection in alignment with the IBEW 1007 Collective Agreement. Hours of work: 40 hours per week (may include call-out requirements) Please note the following information: A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.) If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment. A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion. To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required. Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file. Successful applicants must provide their own vehicles with appropriate insurance in accordance with EPCOR’s Employee Mileage Reimbursement Policy.
