Company Description Lakehead Ironworks Inc. operates a 36,000 sq. ft. fabrication facility offering fabrication, bucket and box rebuilding, and certified steel erection services. The company is CWB certified in steel and aluminum and provides a range of steel sales to support industrial and construction projects. As a Hardox WearParts dealer, Lakehead Ironworks Inc. serves clients needing durable, high-performance wear components. The facility is equipped with extensive machinery, including lifts, telehandlers, a 75-ton crane, and a fleet of service and welding trucks, as well as tractor trailers, enabling both in-shop and field work. Role Description The Welder/Fitter is a full-time, on-site role based in Thunder Bay, ON. This role involves performing a variety of welding tasks, fitting and assembling steel and aluminum components, and contributing to fabrication and rebuilding work for buckets, boxes, and structural projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting drawings and blueprints, preparing materials, setting up welding equipment, and ensuring welds meet quality and safety standards. The Welder/Fitter may assist with field work using service and welding trucks, support steel erection activities, and collaborate with team members to complete jobs on schedule. Proper housekeeping, adherence to safety procedures, and participation in equipment checks are also key aspects of the role. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Welding and Arc Welding skills suitable for fabrication and repair work. Candidates should possess MIG Welding skills for production and structural welding tasks. Candidates should possess TIG Welding skills for precision work on steel, aluminum, and other alloys. Candidates should possess knowledge of Materials, including steel, aluminum, and wear-resistant products. Relevant trade certification or apprenticeship in welding or fitting is an asset. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. Experience in structural, industrial, or heavy equipment fabrication is beneficial. Commitment to workplace safety, including familiarity with PPE and safe lifting/rigging practices. Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, standing, and working in varied shop and field conditions.
