Role Summary
The Crane Manager, Electrical ensures delivery of the highest quality equipment maintenance, repair and technical services while meeting all applicable standards and requirements in terms of safety, quality, schedule and cost. The role provides direction to the Foremen and Longshore personnel to meet short and long-term production and maintenance goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that the requirements of the working shift are fully met in an efficient and safe manner in accordance with safety regulations and health and safety policies.
- Provides leadership for the maintenance planning and execution of crane electrical operations, including coordinating the activities of various groups to maximize the efficient utilization of manpower, equipment , and resources to ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of all equipment and assets.
- Enable the best possible level of communications within the crane electrical team in a 24/7 operation.
- Manage personnel, including hiring, training, discipline and on-boarding, to ensure that the Company’s needs and requirements are adhered to.
- Ensure safe working practices are adhered to and promote safety in all aspects of the maintenance process.
- Drive a performance management culture within the team ensuring that staff meet their targets in line with the business needs.
- Positively advance agreed upon initiatives, propose new initiatives and adopt a sense of continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- A university degree in Electrical Engineering and or Red Seal Electrician. FSR status would be considered an asset.
- Experience working in a safety-focused environment with excellent understanding of Health and Safety legislation and the ability to effectively communicate these values to the workforce.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Manager or Supervisor in a fast moving Maintenance or Engineering environment, preferably in an unionized setting, where you have developed superior electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Self-starter with a positive, hands on approach and the ability to work in a high pressure environment as part of a team to meet operational and engineering needs/deadlines.
- Proven commitment, reliable work history and flexibility to meet requirements of a 24/7 operation.
- An excellent manager of people with well-formed motivational skills, including solid negotiation, influencing, change management and labour relations skills.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including the ability to work with all departments and levels.
- Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives.
- Comprehensive understanding of container terminal equipment and maintenance requirements, including thorough knowledge of modern reliability and maintenance best practices, including IT-based asset management systems.
- Good working knowledge, including troubleshooting skills with low, medium and high voltage equipment and PLCs, controls, and drives.
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office, computerized maintenance management systems and industrial control software.
- Fluent in English.
- Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
