Your opportunity: As Fire Prevention and Security Systems Administrator you will work with internal departments, external contractors and regulatory organizations to ensure the safety of our the UTSC community. You will be responsible for the coordination of the maintenance, repairs, inspections and upgrades of our fire, sprinkler and security systems. You will work with various stakeholders on the design and upgrade of systems for renovation and construction projects. You will participate in community education, training and presentations on fire safety. You will work with end users to program the security system, access control and CCTV systems for daily operations, events programming and contractor access. Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting routine building inspections for fire and life safety issues Assessing and recommending corrective action to resolve code violations Identifying and implementing corrective actions to restore fire safety systems to full service Inspecting the construction and installation of fire and life safety equipment and systems Advising project managers and contractors on fire prevention requirements in relation to changes to construction specification for new building and renovation projects Applying established standards to control the distribution of access to designated University spaces Analyzing user needs and business processes to create programming solutions Implementing plans and process improvements for project activities
Essential Qualifications:
Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in fire technology or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Minimum five years related experience in all areas of fire safety coupled with a demonstrated knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, codes, standards, and procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building and Fire Codes and their applications. Experience in reviewing drawings and specifications for new construction and renovations. A detailed understanding of fire alarm system terminology and operations. Ability to operate a variety of extinguishers, fire alarm systems, special detection devices, and sprinkler and standpipe systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc...) specifically with spreadsheets, internet research, word processing, and email. A valid Ontario driver's license. Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience resolving security related issues and recommending temporary measures.
Assets (Nonessential):
Working knowledge of CAD software.
