From initial design assist through to state-of-the-art manufacturing, we partner with clients to bring complex architectural visions to life. To support our continued growth, we are seeking a dynamic, technically savvy Drafting Department Manager to lead our drafting team.
Position Overview As the Drafting Department Manager, you will lead the drafting discipline for curtainwall projects, driving quality, continuous improvement, and mentorship for a multidisciplinary drafting team. You are a strategic team builder with the technical ability required to jump into the software and resolve complex challenges alongside your team. You will oversee a skilled department utilizing Revit, Inventor, and AutoCAD, ensuring that all shop drawings, fabrication packages, and BIM models are accurate, efficient, and delivered on schedule. This role requires exceptional cross-functional collaboration, acting as a vital link between the Design Manager, Project Managers, and the Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations Collaborate with and provide clear direction, guidance, and mentorship to the drafting team. Establish a strong working relationship with the Design team to create a seamless workflow from design to drafting. Ensure continued development and integration of BIM documentation, workflow processes, standards, and training materials. Provide hands-on staff training for software workflows and internal BIM processes. Establish and coordinate the specific procedures required to seamlessly connect Inventor production and detail drawings with Revit shop drawings. Coordinate closely with project management teams to utilize and provide critical 3D/4D information for estimating, logistics, planning, ordering, scheduling, manufacturability, and procurement in a design-assist environment. Review architectural and structural drawings to verify the specific interface of the building façade relative to our scope. Create RFIs and rigorously monitor SI (Site Instruction) and IFC (Issued for Construction) documents. Provide proactive technical support to the production department regarding production issues and to Project Management regarding site installation. Track the progress of assigned projects utilizing standard internal monitoring protocols. Attend and actively participate in project coordination meetings. Respond efficiently to technical inquiries from clients, project managers, and production coordinators. Perform work-related ad hoc duties as needed to support the department and project success. Qualifications & Skills Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in the glazing or fenestration industry, with a deep understanding of stick and unitized curtainwall systems, extrusion design, and building façade interfaces. Proven track record of managing, mentoring, and scheduling a technical drafting or engineering team. Advanced, hands-on proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD is required. Working knowledge of Inventor is a definite asset. Proven experience building workflows that bridge Revit models with manufacturing models (Inventor) is highly desirable. A strong grasp of how design decisions impact shop floor operations, CNC machining, assembly, and site installation. A willingness to represent and champion the core values of teamwork, trust, and integrity at all levels of the organization.
