Summary We are currently recruiting a Field Service Specialist for our Combustion Management team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with the latest advancements in combustion and industrial technology. The successful candidate will support and implement solutions by working closely with engineers to conduct burner testing, optimize fired equipment performance, perform flue gas analysis, and commission and start up combustion systems. Over time, the individual will grow into a lead role for specialized services such as testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning fired equipment. This position involves working with Burner Management Systems (BMS), fuel-air ratio controls, fuel trains, burner applications, boilers, in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This is field-based position so the job will entail extensive travelling to support our customer installed base. This position can be based out of either our Calgary or Edmonton locations. Please indicate your preference in the application questions.Role and Responsibilities Actively participate in the commissioning and start-up of a variety of fired equipment Organize and support the installation phase of combustion related projects Provide onsite and remote technical support Perform intermediate and advanced level troubleshooting Build relationships with customers and contractors Support project team with commissioning plans for projects Provide field commissioning reports to customers Support engineering tasks: commissioning binders, instrument datasheets, instrument testing record docs, etc. Support assembly, and testing tasks in the light mechanical shop area: piping dry fits, integrated FATs (i-FATs), instrumentation set up, etc. Make a continuing effort to advance knowledge in the following areas:
Burner technology and applications Code requirements (CSA B149.1/2/3, C22.1, etc.) Industrial Automation Instrumentation and Controls Related mechanical equipment
Actively participate in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of other products supplied by Spartan Controls which include:
Fisher controls valves and pressure regulators, Rosemount transmitters (pressure, temperature, flow, and level), switches, Safety shutoff valves, isolation valves MicroMotion Coriolis meters, differential pressure transmitters, gas analyzers Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
Qualifications and Skills Engineering Technology Diploma (Instrumentation, Electrical, etc.) or Trades Certificate of appropriate qualification. Forth (4th) or higher-Class Power Engineering diploma is considered an asset Gasfitter certification (Class A) is strongly preferred and considered an asset. Candidates without this certification should be willing to obtain it as part of their development. Experience with operating burners or different types of fired equipment (Boilers, API heaters, OTSGs, HRSGs, Glycol heaters, etc.), Burner Management Systems, Combustion controls and industrial processes would be an asset Experience working in a power plant or similar environment would be an asset Ability to read and interpret PI&Ds, and electrical panel wiring schematics Practical understanding of flow, pressure, heat transfer, control strategies Experience implementing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation repairs Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills Self-directed, strong initiative and willing to work independently Supports customers in a respectful and professional manner Communication and technical writing skills Physical requirements: Occasional moderate lifting (i.e. up to approximately 25 kg) Excellent physical condition and willingness to work in physically demanding environments (high/low temperatures, loud, dusty, etc.) Demonstrated ability to work safely with tools and equipment Demonstrate ability to learn and grow as a strong contributor to the team Valid Alberta driver's license, safe driving record and willing to travel Participate in Drug and Alcohol test as per customer request Entrepreneurial work ethic
