About the role
Role Description The Senior Estimator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Calgary, AB. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for construction and related projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing bids, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations, and preparing competitive tender submissions. The Senior Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, manage estimate revisions, and support budgeting and forecasting. The role also involves maintaining estimating databases, improving processes, and contributing to strategic decisions on project pricing and risk assessment. Qualifications Strong estimating skills in construction or related industries, including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation. Proficiency with estimating software and tools, as well as standard office applications (e.g., Excel, project management software). Solid understanding of construction methods, building materials, codes, and industry standards. Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Several years of progressive estimating experience, ideally at a senior or lead level; experience in the Calgary or broader Canadian market is an asset. Professional designations (e.g., PQS, CET, P.Eng.) or relevant certifications in estimating or construction are considered an advantage.
