Job Title: Landfill Operator

Location: Castlegar, BC

Job Type: Full-Time

GFL Environmental is seeking a dependable Landfill Operator for our Castlegar site. In this role, you will safely operate and maintain heavy equipment to process and load waste materials while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy equipment (excavator, front-loader, baler, bulldozer, compactor, forklift) to bale, move, and load waste.
• Maintenance & Inspections: Conduct daily pre-trip inspections, check fluids, grease components, and clear debris from equipment tracks.
• Site Upkeep: Maintain the cleanliness and overall appearance of the facility and grounds.
• Teamwork & Safety: Coordinate with co-workers via two-way radio, attend safety meetings, and step in for team members as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certifications: Forklift certification is required; ability to obtain a Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification.
• Education: High school diploma or GED is asset (but not required).
• Communication: Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently to follow instructions and read equipment gauges.
• Self-Motivated: Proven ability to work productively with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Environment: 100% outdoor work environment; regularly exposed to all weather conditions, loud noises, dust, and fumes.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to stand, sit, climb, and bend throughout the shift; must frequently lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Safety Gear: Steel-toe boots and eye protection are required at all times.
