Role/Location Specific

THE POSITION

Working as part of the Safety & Operational Excellence team and integrated with our existing Operations, Maintenance and Pipeline groups; the Health & Safety Advisor will be responsible for the development and implementation of programs in support of the Keyera health and safety management system at our Empress Gas Plant Complex located in Empress, Alberta.

This role is an integral part of our business, contributing to our daily success. The Health & Safety Advisor will be responsible for partnering with and supporting the Facility Operations teams using an advise, coach, mentor and assist philosophy in alignment with the Keyera values and cultural behavior.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize the knowledge of the Keyera Health and Safety Management System.
  • Advise, mentor and assist with the implementation of programs for the operations, terminals, and maintenance teams within the assigned areas.
  • Engage with area leadership, site personnel and contractors in the field on a continuous basis.
  • Lead by example through visible safety leadership.
  • Provide area with ongoing Health & Safety performance metrics, trends, and focus areas for both recognitions and improvements.
  • Participate in the development and field implementation of new programs or systems.
  • Further the health and safety objectives of the company. Driving to be #1 in safety performance.
  • Provide support to the facilities for incident investigation. Formal incident investigation training required (ie. TapRoot, Cause Map, SCAT).
  • Provide consultation around regulatory compliance requirements relating to health and safety and provide monitoring, auditing/assurance and support to identify opportunities for improvement of safety performance.
  • Actively participate in project reviews, selection, approval and monitoring of contractors for assigned operational sites.
  • Support of emergency response activities for the area.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be well-organized, energetic, and service oriented with the following qualifications:

Education

  • A CRSP Professional Designation, OHS Diploma or Certificate.
  • Formal incident investigation methodology training.

Training

  • Industry related safety training: H2S Alive, First Aid, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, Fall Protection, WHMIS, TDG.

Operational Safety

  • Minimum of five (5) years gas plant and pipeline (or similar industrial) operations, maintenance or health & safety experience.
  • A working knowledge of Operational Safety processes such as HAZOPS, PSSR’s, PHA’s.
  • A working knowledge of P&ID’s.
  • Extensive experience with core operational H&S needs such as Managing Control of Hazardous Energy, Permit to Work, Hazard Assessment, Elimination, and Control, FLHA, Work at Heights, Gas Detection, Confined Space Entry, Ground Disturbance, Industrial Hygiene, Lifting and Rigging, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG).
  • Strong organization, coaching, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated desire for personal growth.
  • Self-motivated team player with a strong commitment to improving Health and Safety performance.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to provide 5-year standard driver abstract (clean driver’s abstract).
  • This role requires the candidate to wear respiratory protective equipment. As per Alberta OHS 250(2), the candidate must ensure an adequate seal where the face piece of the equipment seals to the skin of the face.
