POSITION SUMMARY
Shah Trading Company’s Quality Assurance Team Lead is responsible for managing QC staff, ensuring timely and effective implementation of all company’s policies and procedures, and maintaining a system of quality and reliability testing for the incoming raw materials, WIP, finished products and development processes. Reports to QA Supervisor. QA Team Lead must be experienced or trainable to ensure effective maintenance and improvement of food safety for dry grains / pulses handling and canning operations; food safety (HACCP) development, implementation, verification / validation; food standards / SQF and relevant regulatory compliance requirements.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Implements, trains and manages processes to ensure that products meet required specifications for quality prior to delivery.

Able to be a lead or work as a team and in order to complete tasks. Supervise and manage QC Technician Receiving and Floor QC Technicians by providing QC / QA guidance for customers and regulatory requirements.

Must be able to provide coverage for QC / QA Team.

Reviews all QA Receiving and production paperwork and ensure they are in compliance of Shah QA and SQF requirements.

Maintain sampling and application for Phyto as per Shah Trading’s Canadian Grain Sampling Program (CGSP).

Communicates and trains personnel on new directives, policies (GFSI, SQF, Company), or procedures to QA staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.

Identifies quality defects and food safety issues and other problems, particularly when problems occur in multiple products; recommends solutions to these issues.

Implement policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations.

Ensure work environments are adequate and safe.

Ensure operational compliance with food safety and quality are met.

Ensure production is reaching goals set by departmental and company leadership.

Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Work rotating and overtime schedule (as needed) to ensure the operation of the plant and department.

Perform root cause analysis investigations for customer complaints, foreign material, and quality failures

Assist in maintaining QA Programs (Sanitation, Pest Control, Samples Shipments, Maintenance, Mock Recalls / Traceability, Analysis / SPC Control, Complaints Management, Supplier Management, and Microbiological Testing).

Must be able to update programs, procedures and work instructions to meet the customers, SQF and regulatory requirements.

Input data electronically and provide feedback on trends for sanitation, plant and customer quality reports.

Assist and perform SQF, Customer/ Supplier, regulatory non-conformance responses.

Assist in departmental weekly schedules requirements and track personnel attendance.

Able to stand for long periods, walk in distance, climb, and lift up to 50lbs.

Adhere to policies and requirements for food safety and occupational health and safety.
COMPETENCIES
-
Thorough comprehension of food industry manufacturing and warehousing operations.
-
GFSI, SQF, internal auditing / food safety trained or trainable, HACCP Certified (preferred).
-
Extremely focused on personal and food safety.

Driven by first time right quality.

Able to support a food safety culture.

Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate with executives, production, warehouse and frontline employees.

Equipped with practical basic & advanced conceptual understanding of modern food safety, security and GMP requirements.

Ability to work and complete tasks with minimal supervision & initiate / complete food safety as situations arise.

Good knowledge in North American food safety, quality & nutritional labeling laws.

Excellent comprehension in computer skills (MS Office, Email, Web Browsing, ERP System etc)
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
-
Post-secondary training in Food Safety / Science, Pharmaceutical or related Science.

Certifications and knowledge in HACCP, inspection & internal auditing and other related requirements.

Over one year in food related practical industry experience or related function or similarly.

Working exposure in food safety, HACCP, food industry standards (GFSI), CFIA, FDA – FSMA / FSVP, GAP/GMP and related food establishments.
