The work
The Senior Modern Workplace Engineer plays a key role in the design, delivery, and ongoing support of cloud-based productivity and collaboration services across the organisation. The role focuses on the research, implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of Microsoft 365 and related cloud platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and user‑centric digital workplace solutions.
This position supports both tactical execution and strategic modernisation initiatives, contributing to operational excellence, automation, and long-term platform sustainability.
The core responsibilities
Business & Cloud Enablement
- Partners with business leaders and technology teams to determine how Microsoft 365 and cloud services best support client and business needs, contributing to the design and implementation of solutions hosted on the bank’s cloud infrastructure.
Modern Workplace & Cloud Engineering

Design, implement, and support Modern Workplace solutions built on Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms, including SharePoint, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform, Intune, Purview, Viva Suite, and Microsoft Copilot.

Contribute to the development and evolution of secure, scalable cloud services that align with business and regulatory requirements.

Support the lifecycle management, governance, and optimisation of collaboration and productivity platforms.
Automation & Engineering Enablement

Develop, maintain, and refine automation scripts and processes to support cloud deployments, configuration management, and ongoing operations.

Perform testing and validation of cloud services, platform updates, and upgrades prior to production rollout.

Reuse of frameworks to improve delivery consistency and cost effectiveness
Security, Compliance & Identity

Partner closely with Identity & Access Management (IAM) and security teams to ensure appropriate security controls, access governance, and compliance across cloud environments.

Assist in monitoring and assessing security posture for users, groups, third‑party access, and cloud services.

Document design, security controls, and operational standards to support audits and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder & Project Collaboration

Liaise with business stakeholders and internal technology teams to determine how Modern Workplace services can best support business objectives.

Contribute to project planning and delivery for initiatives involving Microsoft 365 and related cloud platforms.

Provide technical input, operational guidance, and subject matter expertise across multiple initiatives.

Leads and contributes to projects involving Microsoft 365, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Intune, and related cloud platforms, including testing and validation of server and software upgrades.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

Assist with advanced support and troubleshooting for Modern Workplace tools and services.

Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, platform optimisation, and service maturity.

Support departmental goals and business plan deliverables through high-quality engineering outcomes.
Platform Documentation & Operational Support
- Documents the design, maintenance, and security controls of cloud‑based solutions, while providing advanced support for Microsoft 365 applications and tools.
Change Management & Release Execution
- Executes platform changes in alignment with bank change‑management standards, including testing, prototyping, contingency planning, and controlled deployment.
Let's talk about you

Experience in the administration and development of Nerdio Manager

Excellent PowerShell and SH/BASH Shell scripting skills
-
Strong experience with Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform).

Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune, endpoint management, and cloud identity concepts.

Experience supporting cloud automation, scripting, and configuration management.

Solid understanding of security, identity, and governance in cloud environments.

Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and business stakeholders.

Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Purview, or Viva solutions

Exposure to regulated or audit‑driven environments

Mentoring or coaching of junior engineers

Contribution to long‑term Modern Workplace strategy
About the job
Working conditions are primarily normal for an office environment. This is a hybrid role.
This position requires one to work under pressure to meet the deadlines and react quickly when there is technical show-stopper type of issues. Critical showstopper issue must be resolved in the same day and may require overnight to ensure business units are operational next business day.
This position may require occasional work after hours as well as weekends to perform updates, testing or maintenance.
Some lifting of computer equipment may be required infrequently and occasionally will need to crawl under desks to reach phone, network, and/or electrical outlets.

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 2200-25 Ontario Street, Toronto, ON.
