About the Opportunity Methanex is currently seeking a Safety and Industrial Hygiene Advisor to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB.
The Safety and Industrial Hygiene Advisor provides specialist technical and practical advice and solutions regarding all aspects of the occupational safety and industrial hygiene safety and health program at Methanex Medicine Hat. The position is responsible for assessing and ensuring compliance of Methanex Medicine Hat site with federal, provincial, and municipal Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Methanex Corporation and Industry standards in order to promote the well-being of employees in the workplace, avoid exposure to risk, and to reduce costs related to workplace health and safety.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include: Leading by example to promote a strong safety culture and Responsible Care principles Building trusted relationships and providing practical safety coaching to employees and contractors Recognizing positive behaviours and addressing non-compliance through constructive conversations Delivering safety meetings, briefings, training, and site orientations to enhance awareness and compliance Developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and industrial hygiene programs Promoting compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Responsible Care requirements, and company standards Monitoring program effectiveness through data analysis and continuous improvement initiatives Identifying emerging health, safety, and industrial hygiene risks and implementing appropriate controls Maintaining a visible field presence to identify hazards and promote safe work practices Assessing work procedures and environments to identify hazards and ensure effective controls are in place Coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring and supporting permitting processes Advising technical, maintenance, and operations teams on site risk management procedures Leading or supporting risk assessments, hazard analyses, process safety reviews, and Management of Change activities Providing safety input into projects, turnarounds, operations, and maintenance activities to ensure safe planning and execution Investigating incidents, hazards, and near misses, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence Developing and sharing lessons learned to support ongoing safety improvements Collaborating with contractors, consultants, committees, and cross-functional teams on safety initiatives Conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance and track contractor and program performance
About You To qualify, you will need a post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), as well as an ACSA National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification. A minimum of five years of health and safety experience within the oil and gas and/or petrochemical industry will also be essential.
Additionally, the following assets would be preferred, but not required: CRSP accreditation or the ability and willingness to pursue certification Accredited auditor training and process hazard analysis training Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices Experience conducting audits, analyzing safety data, and identifying opportunities to reduce risk and improve workplace conditions Proven incident investigation and root cause analysis experience, including the development of effective corrective actions Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and web-based systems
