About the role
Tangent Design Engineering, Calgary, Alberta Full-time, on-site $125,000 to $140,000
Take designs from innovative ideas all the way to certified product At Tangent, hardware does not stop at a working prototype. We take electrical designs through validation, qualification testing, and certification for clients in regulated industries: medical devices, hazardous locations, defence, aerospace, and industrial systems. We operate a quality management system registered to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016, which means the work you ship is documented, traceable, and built to perform in the field, not just on the bench. We are looking for a senior electrical engineer who has done this before. Someone who owns a design from architecture through production, who has lived through certification cycles, and who makes the engineers around them better. This role is hands-on, cross-disciplinary, and central to how we deliver for our clients.
What you will do Lead the design and development of electrical hardware in Altium or equivalent, from architecture through to production release. Apply deep expertise in high-speed, RF, or mixed-signal design to demanding, real-world systems. Use Spice-based simulation tools (LTSpice, TINA-TI, or similar) to model, validate, and refine designs before fabrication. Work closely with mechanical and firmware teams to integrate complete solutions. Drive designs through documentation, test, and certification in regulated environments, anchored by our ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 processes. Mentor intermediate engineers and strengthen the design practices, reviews, and standards the team relies on.
What we expect on your resume PCBA design depth. Proficiency in Altium or equivalent, with a track record of designs taken from concept to volume production. High-speed, RF, or mixed-signal design. Hands-on design experience in one or more of these areas, with concrete examples of how your work delivered reliable, high-performance systems. Analog circuit simulation. Strong working knowledge of Spice-based tools used to model and de-risk designs ahead of fabrication. Senior-level experience. Typically eight or more years in electrical hardware design, with a clear arc of increasing scope, ownership, and technical leadership. Credentials. Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA, or immediately eligible to transfer registration from another Canadian jurisdiction. Proven delivery. Designs that were built, tested, and certified for production, not academic or proof-of-concept work alone. Communication on the record. A history of reports, design documentation, or technical presentations that made complex work accessible to broader teams and clients.
What this role rewards We hire for capability, and we keep people by giving real ownership. The engineers who thrive here tend to share a few traits: Accountability. You carry work to completion without being chased, flag risk early, and manage competing priorities under ambiguity. Client Success. You think past the immediate deliverable. You build trust, surface options and trade-offs honestly, and protect the long-term relationship. Curiosity. You challenge assumptions, learn fast from what does not work, and bring creative thinking to hard problems. You will see these themes again in our interview process, which is a conversation about real engineering, not a quiz.
