Job Description Title: NPI Assembly Technician Department: New Production Introduction Reports To: NPI Production Lead & NPI Manager Overview The NPI Assembly Technician supports the development and production of mechanical systems and components through precision assembly and related tasks. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, assembling mechanical parts, and collaborating with engineering and production teams. During periods of downtime, the technician will be required to temporarily relocate to one of our plants facilities to support ongoing operations. Work Environment This role is based in Edmonton, Alberta, within an industrial manufacturing facility. The technician will work in a production and shop setting, handling hands-on tasks with mechanical components. Flexibility to support multiple projects and relocate to nearby plant operations during downtime is required. Occasional overtime may also be necessary during critical project phases Key Responsibilities Assemble mechanical components and systems based on engineering drawings and specifications Use shop tools such as saws, grinders, and shears to support custom builds Read and interpret blueprints, BOMs, and fabrication drawings Perform quality checks and dimensional inspections on parts and assemblies Collaborate with engineering and production teams to refine processes and improve manufacturability Maintain accurate records of build data and process improvements Support Continuous Improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area Required Skills Proficiency in mechanical assembly techniques Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical measuring instruments Basic metalworking experience is an asset Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity Effective communication and teamwork skills Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; trades training or certification preferred 2+ years of experience in mechanical assembly Forklift, Crane, and First Aid certification are required but not mandatory at time of hire – proper training will be provided Experience with ERP systems and documentation tools is a plus Johnson Controls’ Canadian subsidiaries are committed to providing reasonable accommodation to applicants, candidates and employees with disabilities, in accordance with applicable human rights legislation, and in Ontario, in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (“AODA”).
