Role Description The Journeyman Carpenter is a full-time, on-site role located in Fort McMurray, AB, supporting the maintenance and improvement of District schools and facilities. This role is responsible for performing a variety of carpentry tasks, including framing, installation, and repair of doors, windows, cabinetry, and other fixtures. Day-to-day work includes reading and interpreting plans, measuring and cutting materials, safely operating hand tools and power tools, and completing finish carpentry to maintain high standards of appearance and function. The Journeyman Carpenter will collaborate with maintenance staff, administrators, and external contractors, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with building codes and District guidelines. The role may also include responding to urgent repair requests, participating in inspections, and helping plan preventive maintenance projects. Qualifications
Strong carpentry skills, including experience with construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of building components. Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, with a demonstrated commitment to safe operation and proper maintenance. Experience with framing and structural work, including reading blueprints or construction drawings and following building codes. Skilled in finish carpentry, including trim work, cabinetry, doors, and other detailed interior and exterior finishes. Valid Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent recognized credential. Previous experience in commercial, institutional, or school facility maintenance is an asset. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as part of a maintenance team, with clear and professional communication skills. Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, standing, and working in various weather conditions and environments. Familiarity with occupational health and safety regulations and safe work practices in construction and maintenance settings.
