As a key technical leader for the Oleflex Unit, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of one of the facility’s most critical processing units. This role bridges operations, reliability, and technical support, acting as a key link between frontline execution and longer-term unit performance.

This role is ideal for a highly engaged operations professional who is passionate about safety, optimization, and continuous improvement. The position focuses on proactive equipment monitoring, identifying reliability risks, and working collaboratively to enhance operating processes and unit performance. Every day begins with keeping our people and facility safe; then building from that foundation to improve equipment reliability, optimize production, and deliver long-term value through disciplined, data-driven operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure the Oleflex Unit operates within design limits through clearly defined and actively monitored operating targets.
  • Identify, investigate, and report plant upsets, near misses, and production losses accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, PHAs, design reviews, and support MOC processes.
  • Support mass balance analysis and equipment reliability assessments.

Operations, Leadership, & Reliability

  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight with a focus on equipment health, reliability, and operating discipline.
  • Monitor unit performance to identify abnormal trends, emerging risks, and reliability threats.
  • Support operational decision-making during abnormal or upset conditions, including after-hours support as required.
  • Set clear expectations for operational discipline, reliability, and performance through consistent engagement with operators.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support outages and turnarounds.
  • Manage and mentor direct reports through regular performance management activities, including the development and execution of Annual Development Reviews
  • Develop operators through coaching, knowledge sharing, and constructive performance feedback.

Production & Optimization

  • Work collaboratively with operating teams to monitor daily unit performance and ensure production targets are achieved within established limits
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve process efficiency, reliability, and long-term unit performance.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and vendors to resolve issues and capture operational learnings.
  • Stay current on catalyst, adsorbent, and process technology advancements.
  • Support production planning, maintenance prioritization, weekly production meetings, changeout schedules, and turnaround activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct experience operating or supporting Oleflex or similar units, with a focus on performance, reliability, and optimization, is essential for success in this role.
  • 10+ years of experience in plant operations, reliability, or process-focused roles within oil & gas or petrochemical facilities (downstream experience is an asset).
  • Strong background in operations or engineering within a production environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental excellence.
  • Proven ability to analyze operating data, monitor equipment performance, and drive process improvements.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
