Job Title: Desktop and System Support Technician – Intermediate
Job Summary
The Desktop and System Support Technician, Intermediate will maintain the integrity of the operating system server environment, including installing system software upgrades, performing workstation and server administration, and coordinating disk space management. Ensure proper data backups and recoveries, maintain tape libraries, and manage software and hardware inventories. Monitor system software licensing and maintenance agreements while providing recommendations for hardware and system software planning and budgeting. Additionally, offer technical assistance and support to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability of desktops, servers, and networks
Responsibilities

Communicate electronically and in person to provide first-level support for desktop, laptop, phone system and peripheral issues through prompt troubleshooting and resolution of user requests.

Perform necessary maintenance, monitoring and repair of hardware such as laptops, desktops, mobile devices, phone system, switches, servers, printers, etc.

Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, applications, software updates, and perform data backups and recoveries.

Assist users with account and device setup, password resets, and access permissions.

Manage purchases and maintain inventory of hardware and software assets and provide recommendations to hardware and system software planning and budgeting.

Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions. Document issues and resolutions in the service desk ticketing system for future reference.

Ensure facility is licensed appropriately for all software used and maintain the information in the licensing database.

Collaborate with the IT team on system upgrades and maintenance.

Provide advice and training to users on best practices for IT security and software usage and assist in facilitation of training sessions for new software or hardware deployments.

Ensure facility maintains compliance with company policies and procedures regarding IT usage.

Other duties as assigned.
Academic/Educational Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent expertise gained through professional experience, training, or certifications.
Required Skills/Experience

Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills in providing support to all levels of the organization including senior leadership.

Must be hands-on and able to provide in-person customer service to support employees.

Minimum of 4+ years of experience in desktop support and troubleshooting.

ITIL and ITSM knowledge is preferred.

Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, as well as common business applications.

Experience with Active Directory

Microsoft Office Suite, and remote support tools.

Familiarity working with networking concepts and troubleshooting.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Continuous learning to update technical knowledge. Learn by reading solution logs, help files, manuals, newsletters and trade publications, and through trial and error. Discuss computer malfunctions with co-workers and software suppliers.
