Victoria, B.C., Ottawa, ON, Halifax, N.S., Fredericton, N.B., (CAN.) – Hybrid Position Summary Thales Canada, Defence & Security, is at the forefront of supporting Canada's maritime security through the development and implementation of the Interdepartmental Maritime Integrated Command, Control, and Communications (IMIC3) system. This state-of-the-art technology will revolutionize how Canada's Navy and Coast Guard commanders collaborate, providing them with advanced tools to protect the nation's coastline. By enabling the secure exchange of real-time data among vessels and onshore operations centers, IMIC3 ensures that all stakeholders have access to critical information simultaneously, leading to more coordinated and effective maritime operations. Thales has a vacancy for an IMIC3 Junior Systems Engineer. The IMIC3 project encompasses various areas of expertise, and this opportunity is within our Systems Engineering group at our Ottawa office. This Junior Systems Engineer to support the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of core system components as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This role includes IT responsibilities such as managing COTS software applications, maintaining Windows operating systems, power shell scripting, and maintenance of firewalls and server racks. Additionally this role will involve management of customer documentation, ensuring concise and accurate information. Regulatory Compliance Requirement This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access Key Areas of Responsibility In their efforts to develop and sustain naval systems, Systems Engineers are called upon to integrate a variety of sensors, software, firmware, and apps on commercial and military platforms. The essential functions and responsibilities of a Systems Engineer include: * Tailor the system engineering process, practices and tools; * Provide timely and accurate status updates; * Develop the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements; * Identify, characterize, and describe issues in the system or its design through problem reports and document and design reviews; * Author technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces, and installation elements; * Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the designs are consistent with needs, desires, and concerns of the end-users; * Collaborate with other functions during the implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs; * Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation, integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements; and/or * Support the installation and/or integration testing of the systems remotely or on customer site. For this specific project, typical duties will include: * Installing and configuring servers and software; * Managing hardware and software obsolescence; * Authoring documentation; * Creation of tools for customers to upgrade their configurations; * Answering technical questions for customers and product management; * Supporting the configuration & maintenance of a test lab for the team; * Writing power shell scripts; and * Contributing to quotes and estimates for work on upcoming tasks. Minimum Qualifications: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language Skills and Abilities: * Ability to succeed in cross-functional/multidisciplinary teams. * Ability to obtain clearances as specified under the Regulatory Compliance section, below Education: * University or college degree in engineering or a related discipline. Preferred Qualifications In addition to the minimum professional experience specified above, experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset: * Windows operating system experience. * Creating/Updating/Applying System Images. * PowerShell. * Experience with Windchill or other configuration management tools. * Experience with Doors or other requirements management tools. * Experience with Git or other source control management tools. Special Position Requirements Schedule: 40 hours per week Physical Environment: On-site work may occasionally be required at the shipyard. Travel: Expectation of limited travel to Canada’s coasts. The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash 65,000.00 - 90,000 CDN Annual. This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
