About the role

JOB DESCRIPTION Purpose The Sanitation Technician is responsible for deep cleaning the areas/equipment in the food manufacturing area (packaging area) of the warehouse and maintaining the common areas in clean. This role requires maintaining areas of the food plant hygienic. Shift Schedule - Tuesday - Saturday - 12:00 p.m. 08:30 p.m. Responsibilities Conduct deep cleaning procedures by following the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures written by the Food Safety Program Technologist. Maintain and keep records of completed duties daily. Perform a variety of tasks while standing, lifting, crouching for long periods of time. Keep chemical and janitorial supply and storage area clean and organized. Handle sanitation chemicals in accordance with proper safety procedures. Check and replenish supplies in break rooms, lunchrooms, washrooms, mops washroom, first aid room weekly. Empty/change garbage, clean below the trash and cardboard compactor on a weekly basis. Maintain warehouse areas including sweeping, cleaning and washing of floors, coolers and docking bays. Clean and sanitize surfaces in the warehouse, lunch rooms and staff washrooms. Clean washrooms including cleaning of toilets and sinks when required. Assist with cleaning underneath the dock plates when scheduled. Maintaining the exterior of the warehouse tidy by picking up garbage Operate scissor lift to clean lights and pipes in heights of up to 22 feet or more. Operate scissor lift to clean and sanitize drip pans in the warehouse. Effectively communicate with all departments regarding sanitation activities. Handle sanitation chemicals in accordance with proper safety procedures Follow standard procedures including proper set up. Other duties as assigned. Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met. Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their supervisor. Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills Proficient in operating a variety of cleaning equipment, including specialized machinery such as floor scrubbers, high-pressure washers, and steam cleaners. Ability to train and guide other team members. Strong understanding of safety regulations and sanitation standards (e.g., OSHA, HACCP, GMP). Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and perform basic maintenance. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Certifications Education High school diploma or GED Experience 0-2+ years of experience Previous experience operating material handling equipment considered an asset. Previous experience working in food sanitation considered an asset. Physical Demands Reasonable accommodations will be taken where necessary Be able to work in freezer and coolers for long periods of time. Primarily working indoors but may be required to work in outdoor work environments with varying temperatures. No travel is required. Required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Operate material handling equipment (Power jacks, floor washer, scissors lift, grass cutters etc.), Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods. Requires bending, stooping, reaching up.
