Position Summary

The Quality Engineer/Specialist will be responsible for new product development projects, product quality for existing products/designs, and leading product and design quality activities. This includes overall product quality improvement, quality risk assessment and mitigation (e.g., D-FMEA, P-FMEA), active involvement with design teams to identify risks during earlier stages of the design process, reporting, product validation, and virtual team leadership of quality activities during the NPD process, including reliability, component-related and supplier-related product quality issues, as well as validation engineering.

The role also includes active participation in ISO external/internal audits, support in the implementation of Murata’s QMS, investigation of customer complaints, and management of SCARs, CATs, and 8Ds. In addition, the Quality Engineer/Specialist will serve as the process owner for PCN and stop-order processes.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and actively participate in the execution of quality plans to ensure manufacturing and product quality
  • Data analysis of historical problems and warranty data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Actively participate in PCN, ECO, and stop-order processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Review FA (Failure Analysis) reports to ensure effective corrective and preventive actions and mitigate similar failure modes in the future through participation in FMEA (DFMEA and PFMEA) meetings.
  • Lead PPAP, APQP and control plan activities with respective team members.
  • Analyze and monitor quality KPI, RMA, quality Alerts and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement in product design and process improvements.
  • Understanding of lean methodology to reduce non-value-added activities and achieve cost savings.
  • Work with manufacturing sites/quality teams to ensure successful execution of customer’s quality control plans for manufacturing of conforming products.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly presentations on global quality metrics.
  • Investigate customer complaints and internal failures, and issue 8Ds, SCARs, and CAT/CAP reports for customer, supplier, and CM-related issues, including data validation to ensure actions are properly implemented and audited.
  • Actively participate in ISO external/internal audits and support the implementation of Murata’s QMS (Quality Management System).

Experience Required

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Material Science, or equivalent) preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience in quality department with strong technical knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical components, and systems.
  • Thorough understanding of IATF-16949 and other automotive standards. Understanding & practical knowledge of FuSa is preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, using 8D, A3, DMAIC, SPC, DOE, PDCA, 5P, 5Why, FTA, process mapping and/or equivalent quality tools, methods, and techniques.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated individual with a passion for quality and innovation.
  • Experience in working with remote teams and CMs (Contract Manufacturers).
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification is a plus.
  • Good understanding of statistical methods, continuous improvement and lean methodologies.
    Green Belt or Six-Sigma Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Practical working experience in MS-Word, Excel, Power Point, MS project and Minitab.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is CAD $85,000/year - $98,000/year.

The salary range listed is based on market data and internal benchmarks. Actual compensation may vary depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications.
