

Mechanical Assistant I
About the role
BASIC FUNCTIONS
The Mechanical Assistant supports the Field Machinist Team in both field and shop environments by assisting with setup, execution, and completion of machining and mechanical work.
Key support areas include:
Cold cutting and beveling
Flange re-facing
Line boring and pipe transitioning
Pump base milling and alignment
Bolting, torquing, and tensioning
Hydro testing support
The role also includes general shop support, equipment preparation, and job kitting.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 2+ years of mechanical or industrial experience
Field machining experience (asset)
Experience with bolting, tensioning, or hydro testing (asset)
Basic knowledge of machining equipment and mechanical systems
Strong hands-on skills and mechanical aptitude
Grade 12 or equivalent
Ability to work in physically demanding environments
Attention to detail and quality of work
Team-oriented with ability to follow direction
Journeyman exposure (asset)
Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to Lead Machinist or Supervisor on-site
Takes direction from Field Superintendent or Operations Manager
Follows all company, client, and site requirements
AUTHORITY
Authorized to carry out assigned tasks under supervision, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with job setup and teardown
Support machining and mechanical operations
Maintain tools and safe work areas
Handle and stage materials and equipment
Support shop work and equipment readiness
DUTIES
Assist with cutting, beveling, facing, and related machining work
Support bolting, torquing, tensioning, and testing activities
Help set up, position, and maintain equipment
Prepare, clean, and inspect tools and components
Maintain cleanliness of job sites, vehicles, and shop areas
Assist with equipment maintenance and minor repairs
Organize materials, tools, and job kits
Report equipment issues or defects
Follow supervisor instructions and perform general support duties
HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow all company and site safety requirements
Use PPE appropriately
Identify hazards and support mitigation efforts
Participate in safety meetings and training
Report unsafe conditions or incidents
