About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer specializing in Mobile Android development to join our dynamic software studio in Toronto. This role does not involve direct reports but requires advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architecture expertise. As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will be instrumental in orchestrating the creation of innovative technology solutions aligned with our business objectives. Your responsibilities will include designing scalable and secure architectures, evaluating emerging technologies, and overseeing high-level design initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, business partners, and stakeholders to ensure that our mobile applications meet the highest standards of quality, security, and performance. Your contributions will directly influence our product roadmap and help shape the future of our mobile platform, ensuring that all solutions are both innovative and compliant with architectural and security standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin, with a strong background in application design, technical architecture, and development. Experience with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jetpack Compose is essential. Proven leadership skills in mentoring junior and senior engineers, along with the ability to provide guidance to technical and business stakeholders, are highly valued. A bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields is preferred. Candidates with over 10 years of experience leading full software development lifecycle projects, exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, and familiarity with agile methodologies will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the technical strategy and vision for complex, multi-domain Android platform needs, providing hands-on engineering guidance to ensure successful execution. Act as a recognized thought leader, influencing architectural roadmaps and major technical investments across the organization, and contributing expertise on how evolving technology impacts the mobile domain. Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the Software Development Life Cycle to deliver high-quality mobile solutions. Mentor and coach engineers and senior technical leaders, elevating the technical proficiency of the team and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Evaluate new and emerging technologies, integrating them into the mobile platform to enhance functionality, security, and user experience. Ensure all mobile solutions adhere to architectural standards, best practices, and security protocols, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
