We are looking to hire one (1) on call-supply General Maintenance Assistant for the Milton Campus to provide maintenance and groundskeeping support at the Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf and Trillium Demonstration School.

If you are a jack of all trades, then consider this opportunity with the Ministry of Education's Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, where you will be assisting with the maintenance of the facilities and equipment on the Milton Campus.

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • Provide general preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Perform general plumbing, electrical and general facility maintenance.
  • Provide general repairs to heating, ventilation, and fire systems.
  • Provide general repairs to locks, valves, pumps, repair of windows, flooring, minor painting, and general touch-up work to furniture.
  • Maintain the efficient mechanical operation of the swimming pool.
  • Assist contract and government services tradespersons.
  • Assist with implementation of work plan for summer students.
  • Work on call hours as required.

What you bring to the team

Technical skills:

  • You have demonstrated experience and general working knowledge of trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC systems, and electrical to assist with semi-skilled general maintenance.
  • You can determine proper methods and materials required for performing installation, replacement, repair, preventative maintenance, and construction work at the facility.
  • You have proven mechanical aptitude and experience performing routine general maintenance inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs of electrical, plumbing, small engines, appliances, furniture, fittings, and electromechanical systems.
  • You know and have experience operating various grounds maintenance equipment such as skid steer loader, tractors, and riding lawn mowers.
  • You have proven experience and can maintain efficient operation of swimming pool and related equipment.
  • You have the ability to use hand tools and power equipment.
  • You have experience maintaining work orders and preventative maintenance logs

Other skills:

  • You have developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • You have organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills to manage daily operations and tasks.
  • You have knowledge of and the ability to apply Occupational Health and Safety guidelines, such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), confined space, designated substances surveys, etc.
  • You can move and set up furniture and equipment.
  • You are able to read and follow simple drawings, blueprints, work specifications, including written and verbal directions.
