About the role

Cabin Resource Management Ltd. has built a foundation of experience and dedication to quality and innovative solutions in forestry, heritage, wildfire planning, and resource analysis. We are currently looking to add a Wildfire Planner & Utilities Specialist to our growing team in the West Kootenays.

The Fun Stuff

The natural resource industry can be rigid. Long days. Intense schedules. Ego-driven consulting culture. We built something different.

At Cabin, flexibility isn’t marketing language; it’s how we function.

What That Actually Means:

  • Field days around 10 hours

  • Reasonable camp ratios

  • Recovery time intentionally built into projects

  • Flexible start arrangements

  • Remote transition options

  • Relocation support

The Culture

We’re values-driven and modest.
We like the work we do.
We are not serious all the time (trust us, we can take a joke).

What You’ll Find:

  • Dogs in the office and field

  • A team that supports each other

  • No hierarchy theatre

  • We’re high-energy, super inclusive, and 100% here for the ghouls, gays, and they’s - come as you are

  • Wage and biannual profit-share based on experience, competency, and length of service

  • Gear, training, and professional development allowance

  • Per diem for out-of-town shifts

  • Extended medical, dental, and RRSP contributions

  • Flexible holidays and 20 cm pow rule for winter shredding

  • Up to 5 weeks of paid vacation annually

  • Divisional reset day - we like to find balance and integrate team building with exploration of the beautiful areas where we work and play in BC. Wine tours, food tours, and recreation opportunities like no other.

The Opportunity

Cabin Resource Management is branching out, and we need a boots-on-the-ground leader to help develop our Utilities Vegetation Management projects. This is a specialized role focused on high-risk utility right-of-way maintenance throughout the West Kootenays.

We’re looking for someone who loves field work, enjoys organizing crews, and takes pride in running a tight, safe, and high-quality operation. You’ll be the bridge between our client’s expectations and the crew’s execution in the field.

Responsibilities:

As a Wildfire Planning & Utilities Specialist, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Directing and organizing field crews while ensuring safe and efficient operations

  • Leading by example in the field through vegetation assessments, hazard tree assessments, quality control, and verification of completed work

  • Supporting project coordination, scheduling, reporting, and administrative requirements

  • Performing utility vegetation management audits and safety inspections on contractor operations

  • Acting as a key point of contact for utility clients, landowners, and the public

  • Completing public notifications and maintaining strong professional relationships with stakeholders

  • Utilizing ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Excel, and other digital systems for tracking, reporting, and mapping

  • Assisting other Cabin Wildfire and Forestry divisions, as needed

  • Working with Project Managers to support project delivery, client expectations, and operational excellence

What We Are Looking For:

  • RPF, RFT with Limited License, ISA, Utility Arborist, or equivalent professional experience considered an asset

  • Strong background in utility vegetation management, heavy experience wildfire and/or forestry operations, natural resources, or hazard tree assessment

  • Experience working around utility right-of-way operations or high-risk vegetation management environments

  • Comfortable organizing crews and operating independently in remote field settings

  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and a commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Excel, and digital field data collection

  • Experience with quality assurance, auditing, and client-facing responsibilities is considered an asset

  • Adventurous self-starter who works well in small teams

  • Willingness to travel throughout the region as required
