About the role

Yucwmenlúcwu is the Secwepemctsin word for ?Caretakers of the Land,? which represents the Splatsin People?s commitment as stewards of Secwepemcúlecw (Shuswap) and beyond. Our Residential Construction team is growing and we are looking to add experienced Carpenters to our team. Our Residential Construction team works on a variety of projects from small renovations to new builds. We work on projects from start to finish, from foundations, to framing and finishing. We are currently in the process of planning and developing a proposed Splatsin Net-Zero show home.

We are looking for someone who is experienced, well-rounded, looking to grow, possess a safety mindset, and is willing to teach and learn from others. The Carpenter will report to our Foreman, Residential Construction and work to organize our general labour support on various sites. We believe in open communication, a good attitude, and team mentality.

About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity for a well-rounded individual who is passionate about construction and eager to grow in their trade. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a variety of areas, including:

  • Renovation work
  • Painting and finishing
  • Flooring installation
  • New home construction
  • Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) foundations

This role offers the potential for long-term growth and development. For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity for paid training to complete their schooling and certification in the Carpentry trade.

*Technical Leadership and Execution *

  • Construct, install, renovate and repair residential and commercial structures, frameworks, and fixtures.
  • Use and maintain company tools and equipment including use of hand, power and pneumatic tools.
  • Follow safety guidelines and always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report any safety hazards, incidents, or issues to management to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist in training 1st year apprentices and/or general labourers from other communities.
  • Build and use temporary access structures such as scaffolding.
  • Assist in directing 1st year apprentices and/ or general labourers in performing residential building and carpentry tasks such as measuring, cutting, and shaping lumber, plywood, and other building materials.
  • Interpret documentation such as project drawings, specifications, and safety documentation.
  • Keep up to date with changes with applicable guidelines, codes, regulations and specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform renovation work such as removing existing materials, projecting structures during renovations, and join new to existing construction.
  • Communicate effectively with community members and other team members to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and skill development opportunities.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Completion of 2nd and/or 3rd year carpenter apprenticeship.
  • Experience in residential construction and compliance with National building code and British Columbia building code.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a First Nations organization.
  • Ability and skill set to train other carpenters from other communities.
  • Physically fit and willing to work extended hours.
