Job Summary
The Team:
The Natural Resource Officer Service (NROS) is on the front lines protecting BC’s cultural and natural treasures across nearly 95 million hectares. NROS delivers a full range of compliance and enforcement activities, including education, promotion and compliance with regulatory requirements and conducting major environmental investigations. Our officers enforce key provincial laws, tackle high impact investigations, and take on Criminal Code offences that threaten the province’s resources. The Role:
The Natural Resource Officer (NRO) – Resource Damages Specialist leads complex, high-impact wildfire investigations, working independently to identify non-compliance and hold parties accountable. This NRO role combines advanced investigative expertise with strategic risk assessment, major case management, and cost recovery for damages to Crown resources, while providing provincial expertise, collaborating across disciplines, and delivering clear, evidence-based advice to support strong enforcement outcomes and the protection of natural resources.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment), as a Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Applicants currently registered as a Forester in Training, or immediately eligible for registration (as defined above) as a FIT/ASFIT with FPBC, may be considered for this position at the Licensed Science Officer 1A level. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- Degree in related professional field, or equivalent, as recognized by FPBC.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience interpreting and applying the Wildfire Act, Forest and Range Practices Act, and the Forest Act, and respective regulations and their interactions.
- Experience with survey methodologies and analysis.
- Experience with natural resource damage quantification and evaluation.
- Experience with policy, procedure, and legal precedence.
- Special Provincial Constable (SPC) status OR satisfactory background, security check, and training to qualify as a SPC.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Offer of employment is conditional upon your successful completion of the Natural Resource Officer Academy.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in one of the NROS office locations listed above.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
