Department Engineering Services

Location This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of City Hall located at 426 Brant Street, Burlington, ON. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective September 2027, this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.

Position Overview The incumbent provides technical and administrative support related to linear assets and permitted construction activity within city right-of-way and utility corridors. There is specific focus on customer and staff service support, spatial asset information maintenance, and document and file management.

Responsibilities The Corridor Management Technologist is responsible to: Provide corridor management technical support to utility companies, communications companies, contractors, consultants, internal project managers, and Region of Halton staff. Performs the engineering review and approval, including the preparation of conditions, of applications for utility, municipal works, and/or private works on or adjacent to City road allowances or other City property. Manage daily updates for utility works within City and assists in the management of utility locates services, driveway widenings and geotechnical borehole permits. Tracks all information in the city’s property management system (AMANDA), work order management system, and/or GIS. Respond to queries from public, elected officials, other staff, outside agencies, consultants and contractors. Provide general information and engineering advice to staff and public. Manage requests and issuance of exemption permits for load restricted roads. Complete property information requests (CH, NEC, easements, road width, servicing, trees, etc.). Support staff in the maintenance of spatial data and online applications. Participate in field surveys, data collection, inspections or other forms of condition inspections to provide data for staff. Assist with engineering records management and retrieval for the corporate records management system. Includes digitizing, uploading and retrieval of as-constructed drawings and development files. Assist other service areas with research and/or special projects as needed.

Requirements Qualified applicants will have successfully completed a three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline and have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a technical role with a focus on infrastructure data management and engineering review. In addition, experience with property / permitting applications is preferred along with a sound understanding of GIS (ESRI). Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to customer service, strong team and collaboration skills and effective organizational and time management ability. This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities and must provide own transportation.
