Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Online Programs Portfolio, and as part of an instructional design team, the Learning Experience Designer works closely with content experts to design, develop and implement online courses for McGill’s fully online credit programs.

Primary responsibilities:

Instructional Design

  • Uses ADDIE (or other systematic approach) model in collaboration with team members
  • Upholds McGill’s course design standards and policies
  • Develops learning materials in consultation with content experts/instructors, Multimedia Production, IT Services, Libraries and other units where required
  • Reviews and revises instructor-developed online learning materials for effective online delivery
  • Develops assessment strategies and activities in consultation with content experts/instructors
  • Manages course production schedules
  • Plans and tracks course design, activities, and required resources to meet online delivery deadlines
  • Participates in the program-level design of courses in terms of consistency and continuity
  • Participates in quality assurance processes and ensures that procedures are implemented
  • Shares with the design team issues and lessons learned on a regular basis
  • Integrates and builds course materials, assessments, and learning activities in the LMS

Support for online teaching and learning

  • Develops online tutorials for teaching online
  • Provides coaching to online instructors and TAs to effectively use online technologies and online teaching techniques
  • Develops online tutorials for students to effectively use online technologies
