The Bridgewater Police Service, located at 45 Exhibition Drive, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is made up of 40 employees - 25 officers, (three have been seconded to specialized, provincially funded units such as the Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Criminal Intelligence Service NS, and the School Safety Resource Officer program), five auxiliary constables and ten civilian members.

About The Role

Bridgewater Police Service is currently recruiting for a full-time Communications, Public Relations and Technology Specialist. Reporting to the Chief of Police, the Communications, Public Relations and Technology Specialist will develop and implement communications strategies for the Police Service. This involves creating content, managing media relations and ensuring consistent branding and a positive public image.

The successful candidate will also be working alongside out current IT Specialist and Dispatch team to create electronic disclosure packages for court purposes, including downloading and managing radio and telephone communications, completing Third-Party Criminal Record Checks, and complement our IT Team when assistance is required.

About You

You are an experienced marketing, communications or public relations professional with highly effective verbal and written communication skills and are skilled at writing press releases. You are adept at digital communications and social media management and have thorough knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. You are skilled at graphic design using creative software such as adobe suite, and have effective public speaking skills and experience working with senior leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain communication strategies that align with organizational objectives
  • Supports development of other organizational strategies and policies by acting as communications subject matter expert
  • Assist in the implementation of internal and external communications during high risk and crisis situations, including ongoing police operations, investigations and/or public safety matters
  • Provides media planning and marketing communications writing as well as advice on the integration and timing of strategic communications
  • Manages BPS social media presence; and monitors and responds to public feedback/inquiries
  • Serve as the first point of contact with media outlets
  • Collaborate in the creation of public engagement plans around community policing issues and initiatives
  • Internal Communications to ensure employees are informed about policies and initiatives through e-mails, MS Teams, announcements and internal events.
  • Creation and organization of electronic disclosure packages for court
  • Complete Third-Party Criminal Record Checks
  • Provide front-line technical support for staff
  • Measures and reports on communications initiatives and activity
  • Provides statistic information

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or another field is required.
  • A minimum of five years’ previous experience in a marketing/communications/public relations role is required,
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with media relations is an asset.
  • Experience with IT and programing is required
  • WHMIS and First-aid certification

Terms and Conditions of Employment:

  • This position operates out of Bridgewater Police Service Headquarters (45 Exhibition Drive).
  • This is a non-union position;
  • Regular hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. The incumbent shall work 35 hours per week.
  • The incumbent will work additional hours as required to attend and support after hours meetings with video and audio support and other communication requirements, for which overtime will be compensated in accordance with the Personnel Policy
  • Annual salary range is: $69,835- $89,811, commensurate with qualifications and experience
