About the role
Insight Global is looking for a structural drafter to join one of our long-standing clients in the engineering consulting space. The successful applicant will come with more than 2–3 years of solid experience, but they are open to any level of experience past the 2-year mark (the more the better). Candidates should come from an engineering consulting background with strong experience working with wood/timber, steel, and concrete.
Day to Day Structural Drafting & Modeling: Focus primarily on 2D drafting utilizing AutoCAD (comprising roughly 70–75% of workflows) along with 3D structural modeling in Revit (comprising roughly 25–30% of workflows) to translate engineers' design concepts into detailed construction documentation. Drawings Maintenance & Project Adaptation: Prepare, modify, and update foundation plans, elevations, sections, and structural details specifically for industrial, commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. Manage structural revisions, markups, RFIs, and "mini changes" across overlapping project pipelines. Material-Specific Detailing: Draft accurate structural and engineering layout details for multiple core construction materials, with a primary focus on timber/wood structures (accounting for roughly 40% of design workloads), followed by steel systems (35%), and concrete elements (25%). Team Collaboration & Communication: Participate actively in weekly team alignment meetings. Act as a critical communication link between the structural engineering and drafting teams to resolve design discrepancies and hit fast-paced consultancy deadlines. Field & Quality Oversight: Occasionally Conduct periodic site visits, take precise field measurements, and cross-reference shop drawings or submittals to support construction phase accuracy and quality control standards. Software Tools: Utilize AutoCAD and Revit heavily to develop 2D and 3D structural packages alongside the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) to review files and maintain clean digital project organization.
Required Skills 2–3+ years of structural drafting experience Minimum, with a strong preference for more senior candidates (no maximum experience limit). We are looking for a long-term professional ready to step into a leadership role, establish drafting standards, and mentor our growing team. Proven experience working explicitly within a Canadian structural engineering consultancy environment. Candidates must possess a deep structural understanding of load paths, structural systems, and structural processes to seamlessly integrate into ongoing projects Extensive experience working with AutoCAD & Revit (70% AutoCAD, 30% Rivet) Experience drafting for a mix of wood, steel, and concrete structures with a preface of good wood experience. A Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering Technology (or a closely related structural discipline) is preferred. Valid Drivers Licence
Compensation: $60,000 to $90,000 per year annual salary with large Flexability.
The final compensation will be determined by the end client based off of years of experience and fit for the position. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
