Course Description:

We are seeking a part-time professor to teach SED1515: Embedded Programming and Scripting for students in the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design program at the Faculty of Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, University of Ottawa. This course, delivered in French, introduces students to foundational embedded programming and scripting through hands-on work with the Raspberry Pi platform and Python. The focus is on developing practical automation, monitoring, and control scripts, culminating in a simple project that is built and tested during the course.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging lectures and labs on embedded programming concepts and scripting for physical applications
  • Guide students through the setup and configuration of Raspberry Pi devices
  • Teach Python programming basics as applied to embedded systems
  • Design and supervise practical exercises and a simple project that involves automation, monitoring, or control tasks
  • Assess student performance through assignments, coding exercises, and project work
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student learning and digital fluency
  • Hold office hours to assist students outside of class time

These rates do not included vacation pay nor statutory pay.

These rates will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified. Retro will be paid after the ratification.

Requirements:

Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Fluency in French (written and spoken)
  • Proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, Raspberry Pi hardware, and Python scripting
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to students with varying levels of programming

experience

  • Experience with educational projects involving Raspberry Pi or similar platforms
  • Industry or research experience in embedded systems, automation, or IoT
  • Familiarity with basic electronics and interfacing sensors/actuators
  • Experience designing and supervising hands-on student projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Please note that this position requires teaching in French.
